UAE thwarts attempt to illegally transfer weapons, military equipment to Sudanese army
UAE security services have foiled an attempt to illegally transfer weapons and military equipment to the Sudanese army, state news agency WAM reported on Wednesday citing the country's Attorney General Hamad Saif al-Shamsi. Al-Shamsi, according to WAM, said that the security services foiled the attempt after 'the arrest of members of a cell involved in unauthorized mediation, brokering and illicit trafficking of military equipment, without obtaining the necessary licenses from relevant authorities.' WAM said that the defendants were arrested during an inspection of ammunition in a private aircraft at one of UAE's airports. 'The plane was carrying approximately five million rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm Goryunov-type ammunition. Authorities also seized part of the financial proceeds from the deal in the possession of two suspects in their hotel rooms,' the statement said. Investigation into the matter has revealed the involvement of cell members from the Sudanese military leaders, al-Shami said including former intelligence Chief Salah Gosh and a political figure close to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Yasser al-Atta.

DUBAI: UAE security services have thwarted an attempt to illegally transfer weapons and military equipment to the Sudanese Armed Forces, state-run WAM News Agency reported. 'The country's security services foiled an attempt to illegally smuggle weapons and military equipment to the Sudanese Armed Forces,' read a statement on WAM. UAE's Attorney-General Dr. Hamad Saif Al-Shamsi said authorities have prevented the illegal transfer of 'a quantity of military equipment to the Sudanese Armed Forces following the arrest of members of a cell involved in unauthorized mediation, brokering and illicit trafficking of military equipment, without obtaining the necessary licenses.' The statement said the defendants were arrested during an inspection of ammunition in a private aircraft at one of the country's airports. Authorities have seized approximately five million rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm Goryunov-type ammunition that were found on the plane. Al-Shamsi said the investigation revealed the involvement of some Sudanese military leaders, including former intelligence Chief Salah Gosh and a political figure close to General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. It also said several Sudanese businessmen were also implicated.

Sharjah property transactions rise above Dh13 billion in Q1 2025; Emiratis continue to lead
Sharjah recorded 24,597 real estate transactions in the first quarter of 2025 compared to 23,478 in the same period last year, a growth of 4.8 per cent. The total value of real estate transactions in the emirate jumped 31.9 per cent to Dh13.2 billion during January-March 2025 as against Dh10 billion in the same period of 2024. Sharjah has seen a big increase in investment in the property market after the government allowed all foreign nationals to own property in the emirate. 'The qualitative leaps witnessed by Sharjah's real estate are a fundamental pillar in the comprehensive and balanced economic growth process, which Sharjah is steadily leading,' said Abdulaziz Ahmed Al-Shamsi, director-general of the Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department. 'Sharjah continues to consolidate its position as a thriving economic centre, through a diversified economy and a stimulating investment climate, along with a strong legislative structure that guarantees the protection of rights and enhances investor confidence,' said Al-Shamsi. He pointed out that "the distinguished performance of the emirate's real estate reflects the competitiveness and attractiveness of the real estate market. Recent statistics have demonstrated this sector's ability to attract a wide range of investors and developers, enhancing opportunities for ownership, housing, and investment." Top nationalities Data showed that investors from 97 different nationalities invested in the emirate's property market during the first quarter of 2025, with UAE nationals continuing to lead with Dh5.2 billion investment, representing 39.8 per cent of the total investment value. Gulf nationals, excluding Emiratis, invested Dh509.8 million, which represented 3.9 per cent, while Arab nationals' investments increased to Dh3 billion, which is 22.3 per cent of the total investment value. Similarly, investments of UAE citizens reached Dh4.5 billion, which represented 34 per cent of the total investment value. A total of 3,725 investors from other nationalities invested in the first quarter, a growth of 25.3 per cent. Moreover, the number of properties traded by investors of other nationalities reached 3,951, a growth rate of 25.2 per cent.

SRERD leads Ramadan initiatives to promote community solidarity
Distribution of Iftar meals The initiatives included the distribution of 1,000 Iftar meals in cooperation with the Sharjah Charity International on the occasion of "Zayed Humanitarian Work Day," which falls on the 19th of Ramadan each year. Ramadan tent and food rations The department also distributed 100 daily Iftar meals at a Ramadan tent, set up in cooperation with the same entity in Kalba city. Additionally, food rations known as "Ramadan Meer" were provided to eligible public service employees. Collective Iftar at Sharjah Elderly Home The department organized a collective Iftar at the Sharjah Elderly Home as part of the "Our Guests" initiative launched by the Sharjah Social Services Department. This initiative aims to promote respect and appreciation for the elderly, a valuable segment of Emirati society. "Eid Joy" initiative In collaboration with the Big Heart Foundation, the department prepared the "Eid Joy" initiative, providing Eid clothing to children from needy families, bringing joy to their hearts and fostering solidarity and social compassion. Director General's Statement His Excellency Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al-Shamsi, Director General of the Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department, highlighted that these initiatives align with the department's commitment to supporting humanitarian work and promoting the values of giving during Ramadan.
