Mustafa Al-Tikriti wins gold for Iraq at Asian Muay Thai Championship 2025

Honai, Vietnam ( – Iraqi Muay Thai fighter Mustafa Raad Al-Tikriti has brought home the gold medal from the Asian Muay Thai Championship in Honai, Vietnam, after winning an epic final in the 81 kg category. The championship bout was billed as a battle for supremacy, pitting two reigning IFMA World Champions against each other: Iraq's Al-Tikriti and the UAE's Elias Habib Ali. In what can be described as a war of skill, will, and heart, the Iraqi champion emerged victorious, securing the prestigious Asian title. Al-Tikriti's path to the final included a dominant semi-final performance where he defeated Singapore's Terence Teo with a clear 30-27 score. Mustafa Jabbar Alak, President of the Iraqi Muay Thai Federation, praised the champion's performance throughout the tournament, which featured over 500 athletes from 35 nations. 'Al-Tikriti caught everyone's eye with his distinguished performance,' Alak said. 'He was a standout, thanks to his unique technique and lightning kicks.' This Asian title adds another major accomplishment to Al-Tikriti's impressive resume. In May 2023, he was crowned the Muay Thai World Champion in the same 81 kg category at the championship held in Thailand, after defeating opponents from the USA, Italy, and France en route to the final, establishing his status as one of the sport's elite fighters. This gold medal is a significant achievement for Al-Tikriti and a proud moment for Iraqi sports, cementing Iraq's position on the top of the podium in Asian Muay Thai.
