Failure to give way to emergency vehicles to lead to Dhs6,000 fine, 6 black points: AD Police

Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, affirmed that there are three types of emergency vehicles for which road users must give free passage, noting that motorists failing to do so would be slapped with a fine of Dhs6,000, get six black points and their vehicles would be impounded for 30 days. Major Faisal Rashid Al Dhanhani from the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate said the emergency vehicles that road users must give way to include all types of police cars if they are using emergency lights because they are the first responders to reports and accidents of all kinds. "The same applies to ambulances of all types and civil defence vehicles, as giving way to these vehicles contributes to saving lives," he added. He explained that clearing the way for emergency vehicles contributes to the rapid intervention of concerned police authorities to provide emergency services to the injured and facilitate the work of paramedics in a way that contributes to their rescue in the timely and speedy manner possible. Al Dhanhani called on everyone to help the authorities concerned and contribute to saving lives by giving way to emergency vehicles, noting that the aim is not to issue fines but to convey a message that giving way to emergency vehicles is essential.

UAE: Fujairah Police step up action against jaywalking, issue reminder of Dh400 fine

The General Command of Fujairah Police has issued a firm warning to pedestrians against crossing roads from unauthorised areas, stressing that such actions endanger their lives and the safety of other road users. The authority also urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching pedestrian crossings, particularly zebra crossings, to ensure the safety of all. As part of this public safety drive, police reminded residents that the Federal Traffic and Road Law prohibits pedestrians from crossing roads outside designated areas, with violators facing a fine of Dh400. The warning comes as part of the force's ongoing efforts to enforce traffic rules, reduce pedestrian accidents, and enhance road safety for all. The latest awareness campaign, launched under the theme 'Pedestrians Have the Right to Cross Safely,' aims to educate both pedestrians and drivers on safe road behaviours. The campaign, which runs for a month, is part of the Traffic and Patrols Department's 2025 operational plan. Colonel Saleh Mohammed Abdullah Al Dhanhani, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Fujairah Police, said the campaign focuses on addressing repeated violations by pedestrians who put themselves at risk by crossing from non-designated areas. 'We are witnessing a disturbing trend where pedestrians ignore safe crossing points, stepping into traffic from unsafe locations. This puts their lives and those of others in grave danger,' said Col. Al Dhanhani. 'At the same time, drivers must approach crossings carefully, slow down, and give way to pedestrians.' Col. Al Dhanhani stressed that ensuring pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility. The campaign also seeks to raise awareness among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and people of determination, urging them to use footbridges, tunnels, and zebra crossings. Fujairah Police said the initiative supports the Ministry of Interior's strategic vision to make UAE roads safer and reduce traffic fatalities and injuries caused by negligence or unsafe behaviours. The police reiterated the need for cooperation between motorists and pedestrians, adding that enforcement of traffic laws, including fines for violations, is essential to deter reckless behavior and protect lives.

Use of mobiles while driving behind serious accidents: Al Dhanhani

Traffic statistics showed that the use of mobile phones while driving was a major cause of serious accidents on the emirate's roads, Brigadier Saleh Mohammad Abdullah Al Dhanhani, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Fujairah Police, said, urging all drivers to avoid using their phones while driving to ensure traffic safety. Al Dhanhani said so during the department's launch of the second quarterly campaign, which would last for three months, in line with the Ministry of Interior's operational plan. The campaign aims to spread traffic awareness, embodying the strategic objective of enabling safe travel on roads with modern traffic systems, he said. It also aims at fostering positive behavior by highlighting the importance for drivers to take preventative measures when forced to use their phones while driving by stopping off the road to make urgent calls or using headphones and a phone holder, for instance, he added. Urging road users to abide by traffic laws and pay attention while driving, he pointed out that a fine of Dhs800 and four black points would be imposed on distracted drivers.
