Al Abyad local Camel Racing concludes in Sinaw
MUSCAT: The 13th edition of the annual Al Abyad Local Camel Racing Festival concluded on Sunday at the Al Abyad race track in the Wilayat of Sinaw, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate. After two days of competitions the event concluded with four main races, for 1,500 metres, held in the presence of Mahmoud bin Yahya al Thuhli, Governor of Al Sharqiyah North. The festival witnessed the participation of over 400 camels from 'Al Fatamen' category, one year old of male and female camel, representing various governorates across the Sultanate of Oman. The final day of competition, over 1,500 metres, 'Shaheen', owned by Abdullah bin Humaid al Amri snatched the silver dagger. And 'Al Dhabiya' claimed the silver sward, owned by Hamad bin Mohammed al Wahaibi. 'Shaheen' won the golden dagger and a car, owned by Hamad bin Salim al Ghufaili. 'Al Dhabiya' secured the prestigious Sword of the Festival, owner by Hamad bin Mohammed al Wahaibi. Sayyid Shihab to grace HM Camel Cup closing today
Muscat, April 9 On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs will patronise over the closing ceremony of His Majesty the Sultan's Camel Racing Cup Festival 2025, on Thursday. The event is being held at the Royal Camel Corps racetrack in Al Fulaij, the Wilayat of Barka, and is organised by the Royal Court Affairs, represented by the Royal Camel Corps. The final day will witness six main races, with the winner of the fifth race, designated for the 'Al Hawl', 8 km, being crowned with the Sultan's Cup – considered one of the most prestigious titles in camel racing in the Sultanate of Oman. The closing ceremony will also include traditional Omani musical segments, along with special camel back performances presented by the Royal Camel Corps, creating a scene that reflects the deep rooted bond between Omanis and camels as a cherished part of their heritage and culture. The organisation of this festival affirms the royal patronage and ongoing support of His Majesty the Sultan for the camel racing sector. It also aims to preserve the purebred Omani camel lineages and safeguard this rich national heritage, ensuring its continuity and transmission to future generations. WEDNESDAY'S RACES The competitions held on Wednesday featured a total of seven races — three for the 'Thanaya' category and four for the 'Al Hawl', each covering a distance of 8 km. In the Thanaya races, Al Shamikha, owned by Hamad Ali al Mushaikhi, claimed first place in the opening race, earning an icon and a car. Injaz, owned by Said al Jadaili, finished second, while Hadath, owned by Issa al Touqi, came in third. In the second race, Al Million, owned by Luaihi al Jahafi, secured first place and was awarded a dagger and a car. Al Hathar, owned by Hamid al Durai, finished second, and Al Shami, owned by Jassim al Habsi, took third place. The third race saw Sada, owned by Sami al Jnaibi, winning first place and a car, followed by Isnad, owned by Ali al Amri, in second, and Al Bahiya, owned by Mohammed al Jahafi, in third. In the 'Al Hawl' category, Al Tamas, owned by Hilal al Shaidi, emerged victorious in the first race, receiving a Shaddad and a car. Mubashira, owned by Hamad al Waheebi, came in second, and Al Shahiniya, owned by Hamid al Jahafi, placed third. The second race was won by Al Muheet, owned by Saad al Jnaibi, who earned a dagger and a cash prize. Marmouq, owned by Saleh al Owaisi, came in second, while Makhlab, owned by Hamid al Amri, finished third. In the third race, Mayassa, representing the Royal Camel Corps and trained by Saif al Habsi, took first place along with a cash prize. Mansoura, owned by Bati al Maliki, finished second, and Samha, owned by Qais al Saeedi, secured third. The final race of the day was won by Harbah, owned by Said al Hashmi, who earned a cash prize. Hawayel, owned by Mohammed al Jnaibi, claimed second place, while Al Shahiniya, owned by Khalid al Waheebi, finished third.
