SNAZZY EXTRAVAGANT GAUDY LAVISH DELUXE ORNATE (Image credit: Alan Martin) ...and the spangram was OOHSHINY Strands #431 'Well, fancy that!' 🔵🔵🔵🟡 🔵🔵🔵 Hi Strands fans. That was a fun puzzle. I might have struggled to figure out what the theme of "Well, fancy that!" meant, if it weren't for the density of unusual letters. There are, after all, two 'X's and 'Z's on the grid. That meant I found SNAZZY in the bottom-left , followed by EXTRAVAGENT in the opposite corner immediately after. Clearly this was going to be about words for "fancy". I then found GAUDY in the bottom right, and I couldn't help but notice the word "shiny" spelt vertically next to it. I expanded this to make the spangram of OOHSHINY, spelt in a straight line from top to bottom of the grid. Three words were left to find on the left-hand side. LAVISH in the top left was easy enough, but unpicking the remaining two was a bit more of a challenge, even if one contained an 'X'. Inevitably, it was that one that fell first, when I realized it was part of DELUXE. That just left ORNATE to complete the puzzle. Yesterday's Strands answers Reading this in a later time zone? NYT Strands today — hints, spangram and answers for game #430 (Wednesday, May 7 2025)

(Image credit: Tom's Guide/NY Times/Shutterstock) Need some assistance with NYT Strands today? Today's theme — "Training day" — is a little misleading and those outside the U.S may struggle with some of the answers too. Below, we've compiled some useful hints for Strands #430, as well as the answers, should it come to that. We'll start off with some clues, before building up to the full answer for Strands #430, so read on if you need a little help. Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for Strands #430. You may like Today's NYT Strands answer — Today's theme and hints The official theme for NYT Strands #430 is... "Training day". And here's an unofficial hint from me: "The rail deal". If you're still in the dark, here are some useful words to give you those valuable clue tokens: TABLED GOOSE BALED BEARD DONGLE HOPE NOTABLE Still struggling? The spangram will give you a hint about the connection word. Today, it starts with A and ends with D. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Scroll down to find out what it is... Get better at Wordle! It's ALLABOARD. Today's Strands answers So, what are today's Strands answers for game #430? Drumroll, please... HOPPER BOXCAR ENGINE CABOOSE FLATBED GONDOLA (Image credit: Alan Martin) ...and the spangram was ALLABOARD Strands #430 'Training day' 🟡🔵💡🔵 🔵💡🔵🔵 🔵 Hi Strands fans. Today's is a really tricky one, especially if you're outside of the U.S. like me. Some of the terminology involved is definitely American English. I actually got off to a decent start, as I saw the word "board" along the bottom, and was then able to expand it to the spangram of ALLABOARD. So I immediately knew it was about trains, which helped me find HOPPER above it on the left-hand side. I was stumped after that, however, and needed to use two clues to continue. These revealed two words I should have got: ENGINE and BOXCAR along the top of the board. I then found CABOOSE on the right, which I had no idea was anything to do with trains, and FLATBED above it. That just left GONDOLA - another word I wouldn't associate with trains - to complete a tricky little puzzle. Yesterday's Strands answers Reading this in a later time zone? As Tank Girl movie turns 30, why comic-book adaptation with Naomi Watts, Iggy Pop tanked

This is the latest instalment in our From the Vault feature series, in which we reflect on culturally significant movies celebrating notable anniversaries. Advertisement After Tim Burton's Batman hit big in 1989, Hollywood scrambled to find the next comic-book sensation to adapt. Some, such as 1994's The Crow, struck gold; but most, such as 1996's The Phantom, struck out. Chief among the failures was 1995's Tank Girl, which turns 30 this month. Created in 1988 by Britons Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett (later of the virtual band Gorillaz), and published in Deadline magazine, it was an unlikely candidate for the studio treatment, full of sex, drugs, in-jokes and attitude. Director Rachel Talalay (Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare) was a big fan. Armed with a script by Tedi Sarafian, she shopped the project around every company in town, with Steven Spielberg's Amblin declaring themselves not 'hip' enough to attempt it. Martin and Hewlett made her a T-shirt that said, 'Too hip for Spielberg'.

Community rallies round to support elderly and vulnerable cut off by Storm Eowyn

A Northern Ireland community which has been without electricity for more than four days has rallied together to bring aid to elderly and vulnerable residents. A number of large trees fell on the Eglantine Road near Lisburn during Storm Eowyn on Friday, damaging power lines and blocking access to the area. Several houses which are situated between the fallen trees had been effectively cut off. However, on Tuesday, a number of local residents came together to saw and remove the trees which had been blocking the road. Local councillor Alan Martin then transferred hot food from the community centre in nearby Hillsborough so it could be delivered directly to the homes of pensioners. Anna Leckey, who is eight months pregnant, said the power had been out since early on Friday. She said: 'It has been cold. We are just lucky that we have managed to get a generator so we have got some heat. 'The first couple of nights were kind of fun, exciting with the fire and the candles on, but by Sunday night it was getting tedious and dark. 'It is frustrating, it is annoying. 'Some of our neighbours have been trapped in by the trees.' Ms Leckey said residents had been told it could be Monday before the power is restored. She said: 'Hopefully it will be faster than that. 'I think everyone is just fed up so people have started doing stuff themselves.' Local resident John Bishorek is a member of the Lisburn Safe volunteer group. He said: 'There have been trees down blocking the road. Unfortunately the residents have had to end up cutting the trees themselves to open the roads up. 'Residents here have had no power since early on Friday morning. All they have been given is battery packs to charge their phones. 'There are a lot of elderly here and those with kids.' 'We have one lady who is bed-bound. She is in there shivering.' Lisburn and Castlereagh City councillor Mr Martin was delivering hot stew to elderly residents. He said: 'I have been coming back to the community day after day, but nothing seemed to be happening for them. 'There are about 40 houses here, a lot of older people. Neighbours have been looking after them, they are helping each other. 'Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has been very good. 'They have opened up centres in the area where you can get soup and a cup of tea, get the phone charged up. 'In this community because of the older folk we have decided to bring the food to them. 'Today we are getting stew for them.'
