Police, forensics and the coastguard were all called to the scene. Police have identified the body of a man found on a beach in Northern Ireland earlier this week. A dog walker made the grim discovery on Millisle Beach in County Down on Wednesday, May 21. ‌ The scene was attended by police officers, forensics teams and the coastguard. ‌ Providing an update on Saturday, May 24, the PSNI confirmed the remains were male, and that his family had been made aware after he was identified. His name has not been released, but his death is currently not being treated as suspicious, Belfast Live reports. It is understood that his body was badly decomposed when it was recovered from the scene for a post-mortem examination and formal identification. A PSNI spokesperson said: "The Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm that the body found in the Donaghadee Road area of Millisle on Wednesday 21st May, has been identified. In an unrelated incident, the body of a man was found in South Queensferry, just outside of Edinburgh, last night after a desperate search for a man who had been reported missing three days earlier. ‌ The last sighting of Alan McMillan was at around 8pm on Wednesday, May 21 in Penicuik. The public was on high alert after learning he was partially blind and that he might stumble as he walked. Police confirmed a body had been discovered in the Society Road area of the town at around 8.15pm on Friday. Formal identification is yet to take place, but the 53-year-old's family have been informed of the development. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A body has been found on the outskirts of Edinburgh in the search for a missing man from Midlothian. Alan McMillan, 53, was reported missing on Wednesday, May 21, and was last seen on Penicuik's Bog Road. An urgent search was launched in an attempt to trace Alan and on Friday evening at around 8.15pm the body of a man was recovered on Society Road, South Queensferry. "Formal identification is yet to take place, but the family of Alan McMillan, 53, who had been reported missing from Penicuik, has been informed.
