Rural Alberta hit-and-run leaves man dead, another charged with manslaughter
A hit-and-run in central Alberta has left one man dead and another charged with manslaughter.
RCMP said pedestrian Preston Arndt died after being hit by a vehicle in a Blackfalds parking lot off Highway 2A late Monday night.
Paramedics took the 39-year-old man to hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said in a Wednesday media release.
They said the driver left the scene where Arndt was hit and later crashed with another vehicle in Red Deer, where he was arrested.
Police have charged 31-year-old Alan Navarreye of Penhold with manslaughter.
RCMP said more details about the death are under a publication ban and would not provide information about where Arndt is from, in which parking lot the incident allegedly occurred, to which hospital Arndt was taken to by ambulance or details of how he may have been struck by a vehicle.
Alberta RCMP's major crimes unit is in charge of the investigation.
Blackfalds is 14 kilometres north of Red Deer and 131 kilometres south of Edmonton.
