Summer Game Fest 2025: A New Era of Horror Begins With RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM
Capcom had everyone fooled during Summer Games Fest 2025 as they teased potential upcoming information on the next installment within the Resident Evil franchise, only to drop a full trailer at the close of the show. The next video game in the beloved survival-horror franchise is titled Resident Evil Requiem. The trailer lays out part of the narrative, but also teases fans with something they have wanted for a long time—the return to Raccoon City.
This will be the first time the franchise has returned to Raccoon City since the government's use of a nuclear bomb to contain the monster-making T-virus. And for many, we thought that with Albert Wesker meeting his end at the end of Resident Evil 5, going back was never going to happen. However, with the last few installments tying the current storyline back to the original, hope started to brew.

The trailer for Resident Evil Requiem introduces a new character to the franchise, Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst. She is also the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a character from the Resident Evil Outbreak series . Alyssa investigated the original outbreak in her hometown of Raccoon City and blew the cover of Umbrella. The resemblance is too uncanny not to be true. At the beginning of the sneak peek, Grace is seen typing up a report about a fourth victim of an unidentified disease found in an abandoned government office.
If that isn't suspicious enough, Grace is approached by her boss, who is sending her out on an investigation tied to her current investigation. This new body has led them to the Wrenwood Hotel, the place where her mother was killed eight years ago. Things take a shocking twist as Grace finds herself tied down to a stretcher in a mysterious face. Then the trailer flashes through clips within the hotel, featuring a mysterious gentleman waiting for Grace, followed by flashes of Alyssa, and then numerous shots of Raccoon City devastated by the nuclear bomb.
New Era of Horror
The official website for Resident Evil Requiem states it will mark the beginning of a new era in the survival horror genre. This is thanks to the team's ability to blend technological advancements with a story full of rich characters and enhanced immersion. Capcom never holds any punches when it comes to taking their games to the next level. The graphics in the trailer look incredible, and getting a chance to tie into a lesser-known installment is exciting.

In true Capcom fashion, little is known about the game. We don't know who the antagonist is or whether any of the franchise's iconic characters will appear. With a return to Raccoon City, we may get, at least, a cameo or two. We haven't seen any gameplay action just yet, but the Steam page does confirm that it will stay in the third-person point of view. We hope that the new installment will feature a mechanic similar to Resident Evil Biohazard, where much of Ethan finds videotapes to help flesh out the story. Grace could find similar things left behind by her mother to explain what had happened. What's Next for Resident Evil?
We still have quite a bit of time before Resident Evil Requiem graces our computers and gaming platforms. This means expect more news to come. Capcom is also preparing to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary next year. We don't know much about their plans, but we know it's going to be big. Be sure to check back in over the next few months for updates and enjoy the brand-new trailer below.
Resident Evil Requiem drops on February 27, 2026, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
