Garland animal-control officers pull 15-foot python from truck engine compartment
Animal control officers in Garland captured a 15-foot-long python from a residential neighborhood on May 7, according to a post on the city's Facebook page.
The snake, a yellow reticulated python, weighed 85 pounds and had to be pulled from the engine bay of a truck, animal-control officer Alejandro Jaramillo told NBC-DFW. Jaramillo tried to use snake prongs to control the head of the snake, but had to switch to a net and a catch pole because the snake was too large, he said.
The python tried to strike Jaramillo multiple times, trapped a man on top of his truck, and a 'tense crowd' gathered to watch the proceedings, according to the Facebook post.
'After patiently waiting and working carefully, the python was safely captured and impounded without incident,' officials said.
The owner of the snake was moving houses and had left the python in a temporary enclosure, according to NBC-DFW. The owner will not face any citations, but will have to pay a standard impound fee before retrieving the snake.
