Royal Jordanian resumes direct flights to Aleppo, Syria

Royal Jordanian Airlines resumed its direct flights from the capital Amman to the Syrian city of Aleppo on Tuesday, operating three flights per week after years of suspension. According to a statement issued by Royal Jordanian, the first flight landed at Aleppo International Airport on Tuesday morning, carrying the airline's Vice Chairman and CEO, Engineer Samer Majali, along with a delegation of officials, marking the restoration of air connectivity between Amman and Aleppo. Majali emphasized that resuming flights to Aleppo—following the earlier restart of daily flights to Damascus at the beginning of the year—strengthens Royal Jordanian's presence in the region and supports efforts to rebuild Syria. He also highlighted the move's role in boosting trade exchange and enhancing economic ties between Jordan and Syria. He further noted that the step provides direct access for the Syrian market to Royal Jordanian's global network of more than 45 destinations. The airline will operate flights to Aleppo on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Planes will depart Amman at 5:15 AM, arrive in Aleppo at 6:45 AM, take off again at 7:45 AM, and land back in Amman at 9:15 AM. Royal Jordanian explained that expanding its destination network aligns with its strategy to strengthen its operational hub in Amman. This includes modernizing its fleet—having recently added five new Embraer aircraft for short-haul routes—and plans to add more over the next two years.

RJ to conduct test flight to Aleppo ahead of potential route resumption

Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) announces that it will operate a test flight to Aleppo International Airport on Sunday (Petra photo) AMMAN — Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) announced that it will operate a test flight to Aleppo International Airport on Sunday as part of a comprehensive evaluation before deciding on the resumption of flights between Amman and Aleppo. RJ CEO Samer Majali said that the test flight will be accompanied by a Jordanian technical team responsible for assessing the operational safety and security of flights to and from Aleppo International Airport, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported. RJ resumed direct flights to Damascus last January, operating four weekly flights to the Syrian capital after years of suspension. The route reconnected Damascus to RJ's global network, which spans over 45 destinations across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and the Arabian Gulf. Earlier this year, on January 7, an RJ aircraft carried a delegation from the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) to Damascus to evaluate the airport's technical and logistical readiness. The upcoming test flight to Aleppo follows the same approach, ensuring that any potential route expansion meets safety and operational standards.

First Jordanian flight lands in Syria's Aleppo International Airport after relaunch

LONDON: The first Jordanian flight landed at Aleppo International Airport in northern Syria on Sunday after the airport's relaunch last week. The Jordanian flight carried an official delegation whose aim is to enhance cooperation between Syria and Jordan, reaffirming the revival of civilian activity at the airport, the SANA agency reported. Last week, Aleppo airport reopened for flights after nearly three months of closure caused by the offensive by rebel groups against Bashar Assad's regime in early December. Aleppo is the country's second-largest city after the capital and an important industrial and trade center. Maintenance and restoration work by Syrian authorities allowed air traffic to and from Aleppo to resume. Authorities announced that Aleppo will begin receiving international flights, facilitating the return of nearly 10 million Syrian refugees currently living in Turkey and Europe. It will also enable local and foreign investors to visit the city, SANA added. In January, international flights to and from Damascus resumed for the first time since the fall of Assad with a direct flight from Doha — the first in 13 years.

Syria's Aleppo International Airport reopens for domestic, international flights

LONDON: The Syrian Arab Republic reopened the country's second major airport for flights after nearly three months of closure. The first passenger flight from Damascus landed at Aleppo International Airport after it reopened for air traffic on Tuesday, amid an official ceremony attended by representatives of Syria's new interim government, the SANA news agency reported. The airport was closed in November during the offensive by rebel groups against the regime of Bashar Assad in early December. Syrian authorities have conducted maintenance and restoration work over the past three months to resume air traffic to and from Aleppo, the country's second largest city after the capital and an important industrial and trade center. Authorities announced that Aleppo will begin receiving international flights, facilitating the return of nearly 10 million Syrian refugees currently living in Turkey and Europe. It will also enable the visits of local and foreign investors to the city, SANA added. Alaa Sallal, the director of relations at the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, said efforts are underway to expand Aleppo International Airport's services 'to turn it into a key air gateway in Syria capable of handling more flights and connecting the country to the world.' In January, international flights to and from Damascus resumed for the first time since the fall of Assad with a direct flight from Doha — the first in 13 years.
