Aurora fire responding to 2 vegetation fires
DENVER (KDVR) — Aurora Fire Rescue was responding to two grass and vegetation fires on Monday afternoon.

One fire sparked near the intersection of East Jewell Avenue and South Potomac Street in the Jewell Wetlands Park, just west of Interstate 225.
At about 3:40 p.m., Aurora Fire Rescue shared a video of the fire, which was burning in a stand of trees with large flames visible to the surrounding streets.
Crews were working at that time to contain and extinguish that fire. At about 4:10 p.m., the fire rescue agency said the fire progress had been stopped at about two acres and firefighters were working on containment and extinguishing burning trees, 'which will be an extended operation,' according to the fire rescue.
'Dead burning trees presented overhead dangers for firefighters. Additionally, shifting winds and gusts caused the fire to turn in several different directions and sparking spot fires during the suppression efforts,' the agency said in a release.
Almost simultaneously, another fire sparked in the 8000 block of South Kewaunee Street in the open space there. Aurora Fire Rescue said the fire was about two to three acres in size and units from South Metro Fire Rescue were also responding.
The area is a neighborhood and fairly populated, and Aurora Fire Rescue classified it as 'dangerously close to numerous homes.'

'One resident reported seeing large flames from her backyard, and another said the fire was spreading fast behind her house,' AFR said in a release. 'Dark, black smoke was visible from I-225 northbound and E-470 from the east. At one point, AFR's Brush Engine 13 ran out of water while tending to the flames. South Metro Fire Rescue assisted AFR in bringing the fire under control.'
At about 4:26 p.m., the agency reported that forward movement had been stopped and the fire was under control. The cause was under investigation and no injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming reported it was monitoring the two fires in case evacuations are required.
