Forum: Tackle youth vaping with targeted, long-term strategies
The significant rise in vaping incidents, especially among students, is a cause for concern (Nearly 18,000 people caught for possession and use of vapes over 15 months: HSA, MOH, May 16).
While current enforcement and educational measures are commendable, a more comprehensive approach is necessary. We need a more targeted, long-term approach. This includes integrating anti-vaping content into school curricula, countering pro-vaping messaging on social media, and actively involving parents in prevention efforts.
Equally crucial is providing accessible cessation support tailored for youth . Schools, healthcare providers and community groups must work together to help those struggling with addiction.
Preventive strategies must go beyond penalties. By creating awareness, offering support, and creating a culture that values health over trends, we can protect our youth from the harmful grip of vaping and ensure a safer environment for future generations.
