Lizzie McGuire star unrecognizable as she celebrates the movie's 22nd anniversary in Rome
Galavanting in Rome enjoying a European summer? This is what dreams are made of!
The Lizzie McGuire Movie actress Alex Borstein has delighted fans after sharing a clip of herself at the Trevi fountain in Rome, Italy, celebrating the iconic film's 22-year anniversary.
'Well, it's been 22, or 23, years, but Ms. Ungermeyer is back,' declared Borstein, 54, who played the stern but lovable high school principal in the film.
She then panned around, showing off the fountain, saying: 'La Citta Eterna,' which means The Eternal City in Italian.
'The b**ch is back,' she cheekily captioned the post, which was shared to Instagram.
The Lizzie McGuire Movie, which was released in May 2003, follows the protagonist Lizzie McGuire (played by Hilary Duff) as she embarks on a school trip to Rome over the summer.
Once there, Lizzie is mistaken for Italian popstar Isabella by her singing partner and boyfriend Paolo, who convinces her to pretend to perform as her in an upcoming concert.
The film was the big-screen adaptation of the popular Disney Channel series, Lizzie McGuire.
Ecstatic fans commented on the video, unable to help but quote lines from the movie.
'Correct me if I'm wrong but I think in Italian… that means a sneaky brown noser with a hidden agenda,' one user commented.
'Attention parents: shut your pie holes! (I always wanted to say that as a teacher.)' wrote another.
'You're not yelling enough and you need your headset!!!!!' chimed in another.
'Are you a fountain of youth immortal ageless being or did I just think you were already this age in the Lizzie McGuire movie because I was a preteen with no concept of what adults of different ages look like?' marveled another.
In addition to Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire, the series, which ran from 2001 to 2004, also starred Adam Lamberg, Robert Carradine, Haille Todd, and Jake Thomas.
The movie grossed $55.5 million at the box office.
After starring in Lizzie McGuire, Borstein has continued to work in Hollywood.
She went on to play Sally in Catwoman in 2004, Natalie in Good Night, and Good Luck in 2005, and Millie in A Million Ways to Die in the West in 2014.
The actress also had a major role in Amy Sherman-Palladino's series in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, where she plays Susie Myerson, the blunt and somewhat unwilling best friend of Midge Maisel.
She has also voiced Lois in Family Guy from 1999.
Borstein also took home an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2019 for her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
In 2020, Duff, 37, revealed via Instagram that despite her best efforts, Lizzie McGuire would not be rebooted.
'I've been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life,' she wrote in a note to her 16 million fans online at the time. 'She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans' loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me.'
'I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work, but sadly and despite everyone's best efforts, it isn't going to happen,' she added.
'I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It's what the character deserves.'
While filming began last year and two episodes of the reboot were created, the show was marred by creative differences before it could ever air.
