Saints Countdown To Kickoff With The History Of Number 96
Saints Countdown To Kickoff With The History Of Number 96 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New Orleans Saints officially kick off their 59th NFL season with their regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals on September 7. That is only 96 days from today. Advertisement Wearing the number 96 for the Saints this year is defensive end/edge rusher Carl Granderson. An undrafted signing out of Wyoming in 2019, this will be Granderson's seventh season with the team. Here's a look at all the players that have worn 96 during a regular season game throughout New Orleans Saints history. Mandatory Credit: Chuck Cook - Imagn Images Parker was the first to put on 96 for the Saints during the 1980 season. It wasn't until Simmons in 1990 that a player actually wore the number for an entire 16-game season. In fact, Parker, Thorp, Andrus, Faulkner, Jeffries, Hamiter, and Hamilton were with the Saints for a combined 21 games. Lake was the first number 96 to make any kind of significant contribution. He appeared in 41 games over three seasons with the team and had 2 sacks with 4 stops for loss. Brown had a solid 2017 in his only year as a Saint with 2 sacks, 7 QB hits, and 6 tackles for loss. Johnson's contributions were 5 sacks, 15 QB hits, and 8 tackles for loss in 40 games over three years. Advertisement Granderson is far and away the best Saints player to sport the number 96. He got his career off to a slow start but still showed potential as a part-time player. In his first four seasons as a rotational pass rusher, Granderson had 14.5 sacks, 42 pressures, 28 QB hits, and 19 tackles for negative yardage. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) is sacked by New Orleans Saints defensive end Carl Granderson (96). Mandatory Credit: Tim Heitman-Imagn Images Over the last two years, Granderson has made a strong argument as the team's most disruptive defensive force. In that span he's had 14 sacks, 60 pressures, 33 QB hits, and 23 tackles for loss. Heading into 2025 and in a new defensive scheme under coordinator Brandon Staley, Granderson is expected to be a vital part of any success the Saints have on that side of the ball. Family gathers to remember victims, push for justice in unsolved Metroparks murders
CLEVELAND (WJW) – Six years later, the family and friends of Kate Brown and Carnell Sledge are still pushing for answers. Donning orange shirts to mark National Gun Violence Awareness Month, they gathered at the Rocky River Reservation on Saturday near the bench where the two were found shot to death in 2019. They placed signs with information on them along the Valley Parkway and set up a table to hand out yard signs, flyers and car magnets. Man arrested after fatally stabbing roommate, injuring stepfather: Akron PD All those items had information on how to stay connected with the case online to keep it alive, and a reminder that there is a $100,000 reward for anyone who contacts Crime Stoppers or Cleveland Metroparks police with information that can lead to an arrest. 'Two people, two beautiful people were shot and killed right on the bench [by the river], and we have no idea,' Kate's mom, Kim Brown, told FOX 8. It's been a long six years and it also feels like it happened just yesterday, according to Kim. Kate's older sister, Lauren Rao, and younger sister, Alex Brown, agreed. They hope that the tradition of holding this gathering around the anniversary of the murders to spread the word about their sister's case doesn't last much longer. 'It's been a long road of healing and without any justice, we believe it makes it that much harder to keep hearing these news stories. To keep wondering, it drives you mad,' Alex said. The FOX 8 I-Team recently revealed a possible break in the case when police started looking at Bryan Hurt, the suspected shooter in a murder-suicide for possible connections. Child in stable condition after nearly drowning at Cleveland city pool: I-Team Despite that, Rao said it's just another one of the highs and lows they've experiences since her younger sister was killed. 'We're hopeful and we appreciate that it's reinvigorating the case and that people are talking about it, but like the Metroparks chief stated, [Hurt is] just as much of a subject as anyone else and that they're doing their due diligence to look into him,' she said. 'We're just doing anything that we possibly can to keep their case in the spotlight. We want people to talk about it. We want people to share memories, to say their names, to not have them be forgotten.' Anyone who has information that could help detectives crack the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (216) 252-7463 or Cleveland Metroparks police at (440) 331-5530. Forget 'buy Canadian,' group wants firms to 'hire Canadian'
"Buy Canadian" is little more than anti-Americanism if Canadian businesses continue to rely on inexpensive foreign labour, says the NCC's Alex Brown OTTAWA — While Canadians rally around 'buy Canadian,' a citizen's group is calling on businesses to 'hire Canadian.' With youth unemployment skyrocketing while students battle for the few summer jobs available to them, the National Citizens Coalition (NCC) wants Canadian employers to focus on hiring locally instead of those subsidized under the temporary foreign worker program (TFWP.) 'It became apparent quite quickly that the 'buy Canadian' crowd weren't actually hiring Canadian,' NCC spokesperson Alex Brown told The Toronto Sun, saying that 'buy Canadian' amounts to little more anti-American platitudes if Canadian retailers and businesses continue to rely on inexpensive foreign labour. So far in 2025, summer job postings are down 22% compared to last year — the worst summer job market in nearly two decades. Many of those entry-level jobs are staffed by migrant and/or temporary workers, preferred by business owners who receive wage subsidies, accept lower-than-market wages and are vulnerable to exploitation by bad actors. Last summer, a little over 14% of Canadians 24-and-under were unable to find work — more than double Canada's current unemployment rate of 6.9%. Brown spoke of stories of young people who've had no luck finding any summer work, despite months of trying. 'There is nothing available,' he said, speaking of a 20-year-old niece of a coalition supporter. Your noon-hour look at what's happening in Toronto and beyond. 'Despite hustling on foot and handing out over 90 resumes, she's had exactly one interview — and the employer likely went with a subsidized temporary foreign workers instead.' In response to this crisis, the Trudeau Liberals reduced 2025's temporary resident arrivals to 673,650 — roughly the population of the City of Vancouver. The same policy also saw the Trudeau Liberals cap study permit issuance at 437,000, a modest decrease from the 486,000 issued in 2024. Last week, Conservative MP Jamil Jivani launched a call for Canada to end the TFWP, blaming the contentious policy as a major driver for unemployment and wage suppression, and to divest vital seasonal agricultural workers into separate programs. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Between January and October of last year, 162,100 new work permits were issued under the program. The NCC is calling on businesses to prioritize hiring Canadian youth and recent graduates over subsidized, foreign labour, and advocate for reform. Aside from abolishing the TFWP, the NCC wants the federal government to close down diploma mills and close asylum loopholes — as well as lowering annual immigration targets and increase deportations of those no longer entitled to be in Canada. 'We cannot allow another generation of Canadians to face economic scarring due to deliberate policy sabotage,' Brown said., 'It's time for businesses to urgently invest in our youth and for Carney's minority government to fix an immigration system that is failing everyday Canadians.' bpassifiume@ X: @bryanpassifiume Toronto Maple Leafs Olympics Toronto Raptors World Toronto Maple Leafs
