Police interviews, possible mystery witness punctuate dramatic day at world juniors sex assault trial
Court ended with a terse exchange between lawyers over the Crown's suggestion it could call an additional witness tomorrow. Justice Maria Carroccia had to step in to put an end to the back-and-forth. Meanwhile, Stephen Newton, a now-retired London Police Service officer, wrapped his testimony. Newton faced tough questions from both the Crown and defence teams about his 2018 investigation into the alleged assaults, which ended without any charges. Court was also shown a video recording of Newton's November 2018 interview with Alex Formenton and heard an audio recording of his interview with Dillon Dubé. The accused — Cal Foote, Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dubé and Formenton — have all pleaded not guilty to the alleged sexual assaults involving the complainant, E.M., at a hotel in June 2018. WARNING: Court proceedings include graphic details of alleged sexual assault and might affect those who have experienced sexual violence or know someone who's been affected.
