Kyle Walker faces humiliating return to England with AC Milan 'snubbing £4m chance to sign him' - after he moved to Italy to escape affair drama

Kyle Walker will return to Manchester City at the end of the season with AC Milan reportedly deciding against signing him permanently. The England full back moved to the Rossoneri in January on loan, ending his seven-and-a-half year stint in Manchester, amid family drama off the pitch. Walker hit the ground running in Italy with three unbeaten results from his first three starts. But his form dipped as Milan, who currently sit in eight in Serie A, struggled domestically and in Europe. The 34-year-old featured 12 times in all competitions for Sergio Conceicao's side but has remained sidelined since undergoing surgery on a fractured elbow in April. Although Walker's deal includes an option to buy of just £4.2million (€5m) after the loan expires, Milan do not want to sign him permanently, according to Calciomercato. The England star, who left Man City amid personal woes, is sidelined with an elbow injury The former Tottenham star's elbow injury paired with Alex Jimenez's impressive form at right-wing back are said to have convinced Milan's hierarchy against a permanent move. Jimenez, who is just 20, was originally signed for Milan's under-23 side, but has made 20 appearances in Serie A this season. Walker said he 'wanted to cry' when he left City and previously admitted he didn't think his time at the Etihad was over. 'After I said my goodbyes, Pep [Guardiola] got up and spoke and said a really nice message to me, just saying thank you for everything,' Walker said on his BBC podcast. 'But listen, it's not over. I'm just on loan here. I've got to take that into consideration that I can go back. Obviously, both parties need to come to an agreement come the end of the season and. The chapter's not fully closed, we'll see what happens. The treble winner wanted to leave the Etihad Stadium over diminishing game time, fearful of how it would impact his international career. Walker featured in both of Thomas Tuchel's opening World Cup qualifiers in March. 'I wanted to play in Europe or stay in the Premier League,' Walker added. 'I do want to represent my country still and get to a hundred caps. 'I just want to be able to say that I've represented my country 100 times.' His Italy switch also came amid family drama off the pitch, with Walker fighting for his marriage with the mother of four of his children, Annie Kilner, after also fathering two kids with his influencer ex-mistress Lauryn Goodman. With just two league games remaining, Milan are in serious danger of missing out on European qualification and sit three points behind Roma in sixth. They could still end the season with silverware and face Bologna in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday evening.

AC Milan crush Inter to end treble dream and book Coppa Italia final spot

AC Milan stunned Inter Milan at the San Siro Stadium in their semi-final Coppa Italia meeting last night. They drew the first leg, setting the stage for a pulsating derby that delivered. The struggling Rossoneri put aside their poor league standing to beat their arch-rivals 3-0, ending the Nerazzurri's treble chances. Advertisement It was Milan's third victory over Inter this season after a long streak of losses. The 2024/25 campaign has been disappointing, but the wins over Inter will console them. Inter dominated proceedings early on, but Milan scored with their first shot on target as Alex Jimenez crossed for Luka Jovic to head home. The former Real Madrid striker justified his surprise selection with another goal in the second half, stabbing home the ball after it fell kindly to him from a corner. Inter had an excellent chance to pull one back and rattle Sergio Conceicao's side, but captain Mike Maignan pulled off a remarkable save to keep out a Stefan De Vrij header. Advertisement From then on, Milan tried to keep the ball and assemble some passes, leading to the third goal and perhaps the best of the bunch. A free-flowing move found Rafael Leao at the edge of the box, and he slotted Tijjani Reijnders in. The Dutch midfielder finished expertly for his 15th goal of the season. Milan are en route to the Coppa Italia final. They will face Bologna or Empoli (more likely Bologna as they hold a 3-0 lead from the first leg). Milan can finish with two trophies after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. They beat Juventus to claim the Super Cup after defeating Inter in the semi-final. Perhaps Conceicao was right when he demanded more respect from the Italian press. The Super Cup and potential Coppa Italia might not save his job, but his reputation remains intact. Advertisement However, it is worth noting that Milan have a checkered history with the Coppa Italia. It has been over two decades since the Rossoneri last touched the title. Milan have won the trophy five times, well behind Inter (nine) and Juventus (15). They should be rightly wary of Vincenzo Italiano's high-flying Bologna. As for Inter, they will focus on beating Napoli to the Serie A title and finding a way past Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final.

Milan's Maignan to resume training after injury scare

April 15 (Reuters) - AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has been cleared to resume training within the next few days following his collision with teammate Alex Jimenez during last Friday's match against Udinese, the Serie A club said on Tuesday. The France international appeared to be unconscious for a brief moment and was carried off on a stretcher during the 4-0 win in Udine. "Today, Mike Maignan underwent specialist tests which ruled out complications. In the coming days, Mike will be able to gradually resume training," Milan said in a statement. Milan, ninth in the standings, next host third-placed Atalanta on Sunday.

Marca: Milan offered Jimenez lifeline by Liverpool star

AC Milan are very much aware that Alex Jimenez could already move back to Real Madrid, but a new hope has emerged this afternoon. The Spaniard has progressed massively in the past 18 months, and Milan see the defender as a key part of their future. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been very vocal in his backing of the talent, and with his versatility, he has the range to be a stalwart for years to come. However, this has a negative side – Real are continuing to keep an eye on the defender because of his sharp rise. In fact, Marca (via Milan News) report that the Spaniard 'convinced' the club during his first year and this year he is continuing to do the same, even if his minutes are slightly more limited than they were last season. Nevertheless, the Spanish club are continuing to observe his progress and are paying 'close attention'. Milan have been offered a lifeline in the situation, though. According to the report, Los Blancos' interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold will play a large part in their plan for Jimenez – if they land the Englishman, there is a chance that their interest in the Rossonero will cease. That being said, Jimenez's versatility might be too great of a deal to turn down, so it would not guarantee that Real would look away.

Trio decisive while new signing struggles: Player ratings for Milan-Verona from Italian papers

AC Milan relied on a couple of players to get the win against Hellas Verona last night, as the game was decided by individual brilliance. As always, the newspapers have delivered their player ratings this morning. A few Milan players did well last night, even if the overall performance was average, and these include Santiago Gimenez, Alex Jimenez, Joao Felix, Rafael Leao and so on. In our ratings, we gave the Mexican the MOTM award for the decisive goal. Taking a look at the player ratings handed out by Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport (see photos below), they both agree that Gimenez was one of the best with a rating of 7/10. The former newspaper gave this to Leao as well, naming him the MOTM. The worst according to the newspaper, meanwhile, was Riccardo Sottil with a rating of 5/10 and 5.5/10. It was the winger's full debut for the Rossoneri and while he had one good cross, he struggles aside from that and the rating is certainly justified. 7: Rafael Leao, Santiago Gimenez, Alex Jimenez. 6.5: Tijjani Reijnders, Joao Felix. 6: Matteo Gabbia, Malick Thiaw, Youssouf Fofana, Christian Pulisic. 5.5: Mike Maignan, Kyle Walker, Theo Hernandez, Yunus Musah. 5: Riccardo Sottil. 7: Santiago Gimenez, Alex Jimenez. 6.5: Joao Felix, Rafael Leao. 6: Mike Maignan, Kyle Walker, Matteo Gabbia, Malick Thiaw, Theo Hernandez, Tijjani Reijnders, Christian Pulisic. 5.5: Youssouf Fofana, Yunus Musah, Riccardo Sottil.
