33-year-old flies from Florida to marry teen he met online, Utah officials say
A man was arrested after he was accused of flying from Florida to Utah to marry a teen, officials said. The 17-year-old's mom couldn't find her April 27, so she contacted family to see where she could be, according to a news release by the Utah County Sheriff's Office. She learned her daughter had been chatting with a man she met on social media for three months and could be with him, officials said. After tracking the teen through her Apple Airpods, deputies learned she was with Alex Pete Guy, officials told KUTV. Guy picked the teen up from her home and 'began driving East on I-80 with her quickly leaving Utah,' deputies said. GPS showed she was at a gas station in Wyoming so deputies informed the state's highway patrol, officials said. About 2 1/2 hours later, troopers found and arrested Guy. The teen was sent 'to a youth home in Wyoming so she could be reunited with her family,' deputies said. Guy rented a car and picked up the teen from her home 'without her parents' knowledge or consent to marry her,' arrest documents obtained by ABC 4 said. Guy was arrested and booked into jail in connection with aggravated kidnapping, deputies said. Utah County is about a 60-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.
