Patrik Weiss killing labelled one of WA's most 'depraved and monstrous murders'
WARNING: This story contains details readers may find distressing.
A teenager who murdered a Perth man during a planned meeting for bondage sex — in what has been described by his own lawyer as one of the most "depraved and monstrous murders" the state has ever seen — fantasised about eating part of his victim, a court has heard.
Alexander Mark Sutton killed Patrik Weiss in June 2023, after the pair spoke online and he organised to go to his home in Lockridge to have sex with him.
After discussing their sexual preferences and plans, the WA Supreme Court heard Mr Weiss, 45, had bonded both his hands and feet together using rope and handcuffs in anticipation of Sutton's arrival.
Sutton, who was 19 at the time, entered the home using a key, as arranged with Mr Weiss.
But the court heard Sutton then struck him on the head with a pickaxe, and he died at the scene.
Sutton pleaded guilty to murder earlier this year.
The WA Supreme Court heard Sutton had been fantasising about killing someone since late 2022.
The prosecutor read out some of Sutton's journal entries that were seized:
"If you are reading this, either I have been caught or I have been killed.
"My mission is to kill those who are parasitic scum.
"Maybe I will eat a part of him as well to see if I like it.
"I need to get rid of my anger ASAP."
Sutton's own lawyer, Katherine Dowling, referred to the crime as one of the most "depraved and monstrous murders" the state had seen.
Mr Weiss was the coach of the Australian beach handball team, as well as a massage therapist with the West Coast Eagles.
His former partner, who found his body in his home after the murder, read out a victim impact statement.
She referred to the "horror and pain" she felt that day and the trauma she had experienced since.
She said she continued to suffer flashbacks and asked for justice to be delivered "for the lives left behind".
The former partner read out statements from their two children, with her daughter saying "Papa" was "the person who understood me more than anyone else".
The girl said he "didn't deserve to die like that" and she had suffered nightmares and PTSD since he died.
His son said he missed his father "every single day".
The boy's statement, addressed to Sutton, said "you took away a part of me too".
The sentencing hearing continues.
