Provo man accused of inappropriately touching children in public pool
PROVO, Utah () — A North Provo man was taken into custody, accused of inappropriately touching young girls at a public pool on Monday, June 9.
Alfonso Lopez Gutierrez, 32, was booked into the Utah County Jail, where he faces three counts of first-degree felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
Provo City Police said Gutierrez touched multiple victims while swimming in the lazy river portion of the pool, including a 10-year-old child and her 13-year-old sister. One victim told investigators that Gutierrez had allegedly 'invaded her personal space' and made her feel 'very uncomfortable and sick to her stomach.'

One witness told police she had seen Gutierrez at the pool before, and her child once referred to him as 'the creepy man.'
According to charging documents, Gutierrez denied being at the pool before the day of the alleged incident, saying that it was his first time. Police reported challenging his claim, and he later allegedly admitted to visiting the pool once or twice before but denied being there in many of the previous days of the alleged incidents.
Gutierrez was then booked on the aforementioned charges and ordered to be held without bail, pending a pretrial hearing.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
