Nicola Walker says 'I'm thrilled' as new Disney+ series begins filming
Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement are set to star in a new six-part series for Disney+ . Disney+ has commenced production on a new six-part anti-romcom series, tentatively titled Alice and Steve. The series stars Nicola Walker of Unforgotten fame and Jemaine Clement from What We Do in the Shadows as lifelong best mates, Alice and Steve. Their bond is tested when Steve begins a relationship with Alice's 26-year-old daughter Izzy, (Yali Topol Margalith). Accustomed to each other's tumultuous lives and dubious choices, this new development might just push their friendship over the edge. As their once sturdy bond faces the ultimate challenge, the new romance poses a threat to their families, futures, and all that lies between, reports Surrey Live. Nicola expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating: "I'm thrilled to be stepping into the fabulous world of friendship, motherhood, marriage, frantic revenge and fierce love that Sophie Goodhart has created and to be doing it with Jemaine Clement is completely joyful!" Jemaine also shared his excitement, revealing his connection with his character: "I really relate to Steve – he's classy, stylish and an all-round good guy – except for when he isn't. "I'm excited to be working with the wonderful Nicola Walker and seeing how Steve and Alice's relationship descends into absolute chaos." The cast of the upcoming series also features Joel Fry as Alice's husband Daniel, Tyrese Eaton-Dyce portraying her son Dom, and Marcia Warren taking on the role of her mother, Val. Eilidh Fisher and Ebony Aboagye joining the ensemble. Labelled as 'emotional, messy and hilariously absurd', the six-part drama promises to take viewers on an emotional whirlwind. The synopsis reads: "Alice and Steve (w/t) is a sophisticated, will they, won't they anti-romantic comedy. Will Alice forgive Steve? Will Steve and Izzy make a relationship work?" "Will Alice and Steve ever be able to be friends again? Amongst all the questions hanging in the balance, one thing is certain: their lives will never be the same again." Lee Mason, Executive Director of Scripted at Disney Plus, commented: "Get ready for a riotous mix of betrayal and revenge in a world of beautifully messy and flawed characters brilliantly created by Sophie Goodhart. "We're thrilled to be bringing this twisted and hilarious story to Disney Plus audiences – masterfully brought to life by British acting legend Nicola Walker, as you've never seen her before, alongside New Zealand's comic royalty, Jemaine Clement." While the release date remains under wraps, filming has kicked off in London.
