Conservation group hires new chief operating officer
The conservation group Defenders of Wildlife has hired Alicia Washkevich as its new chief operating officer, the organization announced Monday.
Washkevich joins the group from her most recent position as chief operating officer at the group New Politics and after spending more than a decade at the Sierra Club, including serving as that organization's deputy chief operating officer.
At Defenders, Washkevich will oversee the group's operations and help 'drive the strategic direction of the organization's mission to protect, preserve and restore imperiled wildlife and their habitats,' the conservation group said in a statement.

Andrew Bowman, Defenders' president and CEO, welcomed Washkevich's 'wealth of cross-sector operational and leadership experience' and said he expects hers to be a 'critical voice in the organization as we plan for the future.'
