The grim discovery was made just hours after Alison MacDonald was reported missing to police. The force launched a desperate search to find the 58-year-old woman who was last seen between 10am and 11am. Before she disappeared, Alison was last spotted in the Lighthill area of Back. Earlier this afternoon, police issued an urgent appeal and asked for the public's help to find her. They said they were becoming "increasingly concerned" for her welfare as they carried out "extensive enquiries". Police urged the close-knit community to look out for Alison and get in touch with officers if they saw her. They also asked the public to check their sheds or outhouse areas if they had one. But the force issued a statement tonight confirming that the body was found hours after she was reported missing. Officers added that the death is not being treated as suspicious. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.10pm on Sunday, 1 June, 2025, the body of a woman was recovered near to the village of Back, Isle of Lewis. "The family of 58-year-old Alison MacDonald, who had been reported missing on Sunday 1 June, has been informed. "There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Alison MacDonald vanished from the Isle of Lewis. A body has been found in the search for a Scots woman who was reported missing this morning. A missing persons probe was launched to trace Alison MacDonald. The 58-year-old vanished from the village of Back, on the Isle of Lewis. She was last seen between 10 and 11am in the village's Lighthill area. Police Scotland appealed to the public for assistance with the search, saying she had been reported missing this morning, Sunday, June 1, 2025. I'd urge anyone who has information on Alison's whereabouts, or who thinks they may have seen her, to contact police. "Anyone with sheds or outbuildings is encouraged to check these areas. I understand Back is a close-knit community and people will want to assist with searches, however I urge you not to put yourself in danger. "Please speak to officers or other emergency services on the island if you are planning to help look for Alison." Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1363 of 1 June. But this evening, the force said a body had been recovered in the search to find her. They said: "Around 6.10pm on Sunday, 1 June, 2025, the body of a woman was recovered near to the village of Back, Isle of Lewis. "The family of 58-year-old Alison MacDonald, who had been reported missing on Sunday 1 June, has been informed. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Detectives are appealing for information following the assault which happened at around 1am on Tuesday, May 6 on Elbe Street. The 58-year-old victim was taken to hospital for treatment. The three suspects are described as being white men, around 6ft tall, in their 50s, and of muscular build. One had short, blonde hair. Another had red hair and was wearing blue jeans and a dark blue top. The third had dark hair and was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.
