GC Softball: Dawson reaps All-District honors
DAWSON — New Dawson softball Coach Michael Moore took over and did a terrific job leading the Lady Bulldogs to the 2A playoffs, where the won the Bi-District title. Moore's young ladies were honored for their success on the 18-2A All-District Softball team. Three Dawson girls earned First-Team honors and three took home Second-Team honors. Advertisement Freshman pitcher Chole Boatright earned First-Team honors in her first season at Dawson and senior shortstop Kaylee Payne, who has had a brilliant career on the Dawson diamond, repeated as a First-Team player. Tattum Hill, a junior, was named the 18-2A First-Team catcher. Senior Jady Miller, who had a brilliant career, made the Second-Team as the district's utility (most versatile) player, and sophomores McKenna Stoker, a third baseman, and pitcher Laney Cates both were named to the Second-Team. Sophomore Emma Guerra and senior Tamia Valenzuela were named to the district's Honorable Mention list as outfielders and Valenzuela and Tattum Hill earned All-District All-Academic honors.

McKinley stepping down as WC AD, named AD emeritus
Bob McKinley has announced that he is stepping down as Weatherford College's athletic director as of May 1, remaining as the college's women's basketball coach. In honor of McKinley's 40-plus years as athletic director, WC President Tod Allen Farmer has named McKinley 'athletic director emeritus.' 'Coach Bob has had a legendary career, and he is not done yet' exclaimed Farmer. 'While assuming the role of athletic director emeritus and women's head basketball coach, Coach Bob will continue adding to his over 1,000 wins.' Advertisement In his time as athletic director, McKinley has overseen a department that has excelled and expanded. WC's teams have won 26 conference championships, earned berths in 12 NJCAA national tournaments, participated in 19 College National Finals Rodeos, won one national championship and had dozens of NJCAA All-Academic honorees. He also oversaw the addition of baseball, softball, volleyball, women's/men's tennis and women's/men's golf. 'WC today, compared to when I first came here, is amazing,' McKinley said. 'The athletic programs have expanded exponentially in the last few years, and it's been my honor to serve as WC's athletic director. The memories will always hold a significant place in my heart, and I now look forward to concentrating solely on coaching women's basketball. I am forever grateful for the continued support from our administration.' As for his role as coach, McKinley is the winningest NJCAA Division I basketball coach in the nation with a 1,027-544 record. He is a 12-time conference Coach of the Year Award recipient and was inducted into the NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2015.
