Priyank Kharge joins Rahul Gandhi, urges EC to facilitate court-monitored hackathon of EVMs

Karnataka's IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge on Monday urged the election commission to facilitate a court-monitored ethical hackathon and a rigorous technical audit of EVMs offering the help of the state's robust tech ecosystem as he joined AICC leader Rahul Gandhi 's campaign for disclosure of poll-related data of recent elections. Kharge, in a post on X, said he had, in December last year, proposed a court monitored ethical hackathon, a rigorous technical audit of EVMs involving premier academic institutions and reputed private technology R&D players. 'Karnataka is home to the world's fourth largest technology cluster and our ecosystem is well-positioned to examine the entire EVM architecture, from hardware and software to vote recording and counting, under judicial and academic oversight.' The congress minister in his post said that in view of the ongoing and much-needed debate on electoral integrity, prompted by recent findings from the Maharashtra elections by Rahul Gandhi, he felt it was important to share the concerns and possible remedy he had formally raised with the Election Commission. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Complete protection with iPru All-in-one Term Plan ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote 'In my letter dated December 3, 2024, to the Commissioner, I had detailed several concerning instances, from mismatched vote counts and inconsistencies in electoral rolls to unusual turnout percentages, missing EVMs and vulnerabilities in VVPATs and control units. I also flagged procedural gaps that raise serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process,' he said. Kharge said it was disappointing that the ECI had not responded to this proposal yet. 'I urge the Commission to act with urgency and allow the audit we have offered in good faith.' Live Events

Indian student denied US Visa for one direct answer, here's what it was

Image credits: Getty Images American visas are one of the most prestigious ones across the globe. However, the journey to get one can be more gruesome than one can imagine, often leading to disappointments of a lifetime. This is what happened with an Indian student from Delhi who failed his US visa interview, just because of one direct answer. The young aspirant claimed he had secured admission in the Master's in Finance Program at the City University of New York (CUNY) Baruch. In the documents, everything looked promising with him having an I-20 form, a strong academic background and financial backing through a $58.5k loan and $58.5k in savings. However, when he walked the US Embassy in New Delhi for his F-1 visa interview, things didn't go as expected. The student took to Reddit to share the details of his interview, asking people to help and let him know why his visa got rejected. When asked by the Visa officer about how he found out about the university, the applicant replied that he was searching for colleges that accepted 3-year undergraduate degree in the US when he came across Baruch. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Complete protection with iPru All-in-one Term Plan ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo He had also read positive reviews of the university on platforms like LinkedIn. Following some other questions, he was left with a denied visa, which left him perplexed with the result. Reddit to the rescue Image credits: Reddit Many Reddit users replied to the applicant's post with possible reasons for his visa rejection. Many pointed out that his answer to choosing the university may have been the deal-breaker for the visa officer, as it wasn't deep. Maybe the reason why you chose that uni. Choosing the uni should be 'I want my career this and when I finish, I will be doing this job back in country, this uni help is polishing my skills XYZ…' By choosing a uni based on uni requirement might be the reason of rejection," replied a person on Reddit. "Never given an interview (upcoming) so don't know but, your why university answer was not it. It felt as if you first decided to go to the US and then started looking for universities. It should be the other way around. A student should be motivated to study and then find appropriate universities all around the world. If that perfect university somehow exists in US, you go there. Your answer doesn't show commitment. It feels as if you searched up the universities you were accepted into in 10 minutes and decided your future career," added another. Others thought his answer to the finance question was wrong. "The question about finances - always start with your parent(s), savings and then loan. They know you have plans to work in the US to pay off the loans," answered another Reddit user.

HC turns down principal's bail plea

1 2 3 Kolkata: The bail plea of a blind school principal accused of raping a minor was turned down by the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, considering the "gravity" of the offence while stating that the survivor has "clearly implicated" him. The bail plea of the principal of a blind school at Behala Chowrasta, accused of raping a child in 2010, was turned down by the Calcutta High Court on May 14. This decision acknowledged the statements filed by the survivor as well as other girls alleging sexual abuse against him. The principal, who is 100% visually impaired according to his lawyer, has been asked to make his arguments at a lower court where the trial is presently ongoing. His counsel, Milan Mukherjee, approached the court stating that he was in custody for one year and 15 days. Mukherjee pointed out to the court that the complaint against his client was lodged 14 years after the incident by the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) in 2024 at Ultadanga PS, which was later transferred to Haridevpur PS. The brief facts of the case are that the blind school principal was accused of sexually abusing the girl and committing penetrative sexual assault within the premises. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Complete protection with iPru All-in-one Term Plan ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo It was alleged that he took advantage of vulnerable conditions multiple times and misused his position. He was arrested on April 3, 2024. The medical examination of the victim was conducted on May 3, 2024. The FIR was registered on March 8, 2024, and the charge sheet was submitted on June 5, 2024. While questioning the long gap in the filing of the complaint, his counsel also pointed out that the accused cannot be charged under the POCSO Act, considering the incident was claimed to have taken place in 2010, which was two years before the POCSO Act was implemented. "The Act does not have a retrospective effect to take into its fold any offence of such nature committed prior to the coming into force of the said Act. Therefore, the petitioner cannot be held liable for the commission of an offence under the POCSO Act," Mukherjee argued. However, Justice Bivas Pattanayak remained firm on the point that these arguments—the POCSO Act section and the delay in filing of the case—can be made before the trial court by his lawyer. Even the argument on the age of the survivor mentioned on her Madhyamik admit card, which indicated that she was 18 years and 6 months old, was observed to be decided in trial."Upon going through the statement of the victim girl recorded before the Magistrate, it is found that she has clearly implicated the petitioner… On the basis of the materials on record and bearing in mind the nature and gravity of the offence, I am not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner," the judge held. Chhattisgarh to Launch Statewide Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants, STF to Be Formed in Every District

RAIPUR: In a decisive move aimed at bolstering internal security, Chhattisgarh government has announced a statewide campaign to identify and take action against Bangladeshi infiltrators, illegal immigrants, and individuals residing without valid documents. The campaign follows a resolution passed during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on April 28. Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma said that Special Task Forces (STFs) will be established in every district to carry out this mission. "This is a matter of national security. These unauthorized individuals not only violate civil rights but pose serious security risks," Sharma said in a statement. Operation Sindoor Amid flare-up hours after thaw, officials say things will settle down with time Ceasefire on, but pressure stays: Key decisions by India against Pak that still stand 'Will work with India & Pakistan to seek solution on Kashmir': Trump Sharma also warned that the crackdown will not be limited to immigrants alone. Strict action will be taken against individuals involved in creating fake documents or those aiding illegal migrants—such as contractors, scrap dealers, tent house operators, and garden workers—who facilitate such entries for minor profits. A circular from the Police Headquarters has instructed all district police chiefs to act on the directives issued by the central government. Once identified, the process to expel such individuals from the state will be initiated, the circular notes. The government is also focusing on strict verification of documents like ration cards, Aadhaar, voter IDs, driver's licenses, and PAN cards. In areas where migrant laborers have been brought in by contractors, police have been told to conduct thorough verification to ensure no illegal immigrants are being employed or sheltered. 1,800 Pakistani Visa Holders Identified in Raipur Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lal Umed Singh said that around 1,800 individuals, including two Muslims, are currently residing in the city on Pakistani visas, most of them belonging to the Hindu community. "All of them have been identified. Once we receive instructions from the Centre, appropriate action will be taken," Singh said. Those on Long-Term Visas (LTVs) are expected to apply for extensions in July. The campaign has not gone without criticism by the opposition Congress. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel questioned the effectiveness of previous such initiatives. 'How many were expelled during past campaigns? How many were even identified? These figures should be made public,' he said. Baghel also alleged that such narratives tend to resurface around election time, especially in border states like West Bengal, insinuating political motives behind the renewed focus. He also questioned the outcome of the police officers' door-to-door campaigns. As the campaign rolls out, all eyes are on how effectively the newly formed STFs will act on the ground. These compounds help reduce inflammation and protect cells from oxidative stress, which benefits both the gut and liver. Well, that's not it, green tea can also help to alleviate the risk of cardiometabolic disease. It can also minimize digestive issues like heartburn or bloating. Trump Demands This From China Amid Tariff War... | 'U.S. No Longer Lose On Trade' Coffee Next on Dr. Sethi's list is coffee. Yes, that's right. Your morning punch of caffeine is not just good for your soul, but also for your liver. A 2016 study found that consumption of 2 cups of coffee daily protects against the progression of almost all forms of liver disease. 'Coffee promotes liver health due to its antioxidant content,' the gut doctor adds. It also decreases the risk of fatty liver and liver cancer. The doctor advises not to add sugar to it. He cautioned that individuals experiencing heartburn or bloating might benefit from decaf coffee, ideally prepared using the CO2 method to preserve its health benefits. Smoothies I blended mixed berries, spinach, and banana into a vibrant, chilled smoothie. The taste is fresh and invigorating. Who knew protecting your liver meant indulging in delectable smoothies! The gut doctor drinks a smoothie made by blending fruits and vegetables in coconut water. Unlike juices, which lack fiber, smoothies retain the fiber content, which supports gut health and digestion. Coconut water, which is the base for the smoothie, has hydrating properties and natural electrolytes, making it even more nutritious and healthy.
