Nashville Xfinity results: Justin Allgaier scores third victory of the season
LEBANON, Tenn. — Justin Allgaier swept both stages, led a race-high 101 laps, including the final 48, to win Saturday's Xfinity race at Nashville Superspeedway. The victory is the third of the season for Allgaier and 28th of his career. He passes Jeff Burton for ninth on the all-time Xfinity wins list. Allgaier earned his second career win at Nashville. MORE: Nashville results Connor Zilisch finished second, giving JR Motorsports the top-two finishers in the race. It is the 17th time in team history that JR Motorsports has accomplished that feat and the first time it has done so this year. Sam Mayer was third and his Haas Factory Team teammate Sheldon Creed was fourth. Ross Chastain, driving for JR Motorsports, completed the top five. NASCAR Xfinity results: William Byron conquers Charlotte in overtime
CONCORD, N.C. — William Byron overcame a pit road speeding penalty and passed Justin Allgaier in overtime to win Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It is his fifth career Xfinity victory and first since Phoenix in November 2017 — a span of 10 starts for the Cup Series regular. The victory comes a day after Hendrick Motorsports announced it had signed Byron to a contract extension through the 2029 season. 'It just felt awesome to win here,' Byron said of his first national series victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway, his hometown track. MORE: Charlotte results Connor Zilisch, who will make his second career Cup start in Sunday's Coca-Cola 600, finished second. This was his first race since he suffered a back injury last month at Talladega. #NASCAR … Connor Zilisch will have some extra lumbar support in his seat for his healing back. He gives an update of how he is feeling ahead of today's Xfinity race and Sunday's Coke 600. Nick Sanchez placed a career-best third. Allgaier, the reigning series champion, finished fourth for his ninth top-five result of the season. Sammy Smith completed the top five. Dean Thompson placed sixth to match his best series result. Ryan Ellis placed ninth, scoring his first top-10 finish in his 144th career series start. Chase Briscoe, who will start on the pole for Sunday's Coca-Cola 600, finished 24th in Saturday's race. Byron won both stages but was called for speeding on pit road while pitting at the end of the second stage. He worked his way through the field and was helped by late cautions. Allgaier did not pit when most of the field did 20 laps from the scheduled distance. He had older tires than most, including Byron, who got by Allgaier after the overtime restart and led the final two laps to win. 'Once I was sped, it was playing catchup from there on out,' Byron said.

Super sub Kyle Larson battles to 2OT win at Texas
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Crew chief Mardy Lindley called his shot. "We've got to stop to win," Lindley radioed to driver Kyle Larson, subbing for injured Connor Zilisch in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet. Lindley was right. Larson made a late pit stop and proceeded to win Saturday's Andy's Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway in two overtimes. The victory was Larson's second of the season, his second at Texas and the 17th of his career, with Larson charging from the seventh position on a Lap 194 restart -- behind six cars that stayed out on older tires -- to win in two extra periods. On Lap 188, Larson was cruising to a probable win with a lead of more than six seconds when Corey Day -- in the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Larson drove to a dominating win at Bristol in mid-April -- hit the tire barrier on the inside of Turn 3 to cause the ninth of 11 cautions. That's when Lindley made the call to bring Larson to pit road, and ultimately it paid off. After moving from third to second on the first overtime restart, Larson took the lead from defending race winner Sam Mayer in the second overtime and pulled away to win by 1.265 seconds over Taylor Gray, who "Thanks to JRM for letting me come run this thing here today. Obviously, I wish Connor was in the car, but it means a lot that they thought of me to call up to run this thing." As Larson worked his way through the field twice -- once from the 20th starting position and again after an uncontrolled tire penalty sent him to the rear after the first stage break -- Allgaier led a race-high 99 laps and kept Larson at bay until a cycle of green-flag pit stops in the final stage scrambled the running order. It was during that cycle that Allgaier's race came to an untimely end. Running 12th after pitting on Lap 153, Allgaier closed fast on the No. 5 Chevrolet of Kris Wright near the exit from Turn 4. Wright failed to hold the bottom lane and drifted up the track into Allgaier's line. Allgaier made a move toward the inside but couldn't avoid Wright's car. The No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet slammed into the outside wall in the tri-oval, slid down onto the infield grass and ended the race on a wrecker. Allgaier, who had lost position to Larson during the pit sequence, was gracious in his assessment of the wreck that ended his day. "The hard part is, ultimately it falls on my shoulders," Allgaier said. "We'd about gotten crashed a couple laps before the green-flag stop there, and I think they had some damage and he (Wright) was having a bit of a tough time with his race car, and I'm trying to catch back to the 88 and trying to push and ultimately put myself in a bad position ... "Kyle and I had a great battle, and I was having a lot of fun with it. Obviously, the guy's ultra-fast in anything that he drives ... I think probably the most disappointing part about today is that it's my mom's birthday. I would love to get a trophy and celebrate her birthday with that, but instead I'm standing here talking to you guys." Allgaier's exit opened the door for Mayer, Gray, Austin Hill and Nick Sanchez. Driving the No. 48 Big Machine Racing Chevrolet, Sanchez ran consistently in the top five until the second overtime, when he hit the wall and dropped to 20th at the finish. Riley Herbst finished third after restarting sixth in the final overtime, with Hill coming home fourth, Mayer fifth and Harrison Burton sixth. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier has reacted to his wreck with Kris Wright during the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. Allgaier had led 99 laps of the race today and won stage 1. However, while attempting to lap Wright in his efforts to challenge Kyle Larson for the win, the pair collided. Wright moved up slightly, leading to Allgaier clipping his rear, sending them into a spin. The JR Motorsports driver, who currently leads the Xfinity Series standings, was cleared by the medical team following the race. While speaking to the media, he admitted that it was his fault. "The hard part is, ultimately it falls on my shoulders," Allgaier said. Reflecting on the race, Larson explained: "It was a lot of survival, I felt like in that race. I got in some wrecks, the balance we had to work on quite a bit. So, it was fun. I felt like if I could ever get the lead, I could stretch it out, but I couldn't get by Justin [Allgaier]. He was running where I needed to be. NASCAR Xfinity Series Power Rankings: Is Brandon Jones finding another gear?
And just like that, the NASCAR Xfinity Series season has completed one-third of its regular season and a hair over a quarter of the 2025 campaign's entirety. Following Kyle Larson's victory at Bristol Motor Speedway, the Xfinity Series campaign is now nine races old, and plenty has changed since we ranked the Xfinity field on the eve of the 2025 season. Advertisement Let's give this ranking another try. John Crane ranks the top 12 Xfinity Series contenders through the first nine races of the 2025 season and ahead of the series' exciting return to Rockingham Speedway on Saturday (4 p.m. ET, The CW, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). RELATED: 2025 Xfinity Series schedule | Xfinity Series standings Analysis: Two of Allgaier's first three races to begin the season ended with finishes of 18th or worse … but was there any worry? Of course not. Allgaier sandwiched those finishes with a runner-up result at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and that's not all. Dating back to Phoenix Raceway in March, the reigning Xfinity Series champ is on a six-race streak of top-five finishes, including back-to-back dubs at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. No. 7 is a slam dunk No. 1 in this ranking installment. Analysis: Hill is currently on a rough patch of sorts, with two finishes of 16th or worse in his last two contests (Darlington, Bristol), but fret not. Aside from Allgaier, the 30-year-old Hill is the only driver in the circuit to tally two wins at this juncture of the season. And while Hill has surprisingly led only nine laps since his convincing victory at Atlanta in February, there should be little — if any — concern that the Georgia native will again go on a scorcher. Analysis: If you predicted that Mayer would rank … checks notes … second in the driver standings at this mark of the campaign, collect your earnings now. Freshly into his inaugural campaign with the refreshed Haas Factory Team, the 21-year-old Mayer has already tallied five top fives and six top 10s, good enough for a 9.4 average finish. (Only Allgaier's 7.2 average finish ranks higher among all full-timers.) Although Mayer has only led 35 laps to date, that total could certainly rise should this pace continue. Keep a watchful eye. Analysis: After clinching his first win of the season during the first race of the season, Love has continued to show signs of consistency, save for a 37th-place tally at Martinsville Speedway in March; all of his other 2025 finishes to date have yielded results of 16th or better. Not too shabby for the Xfinity Series sophomore, who has repelled any semblance of a second-year slump. Analysis: A fifth-place preseason ranking might've been seen as a reach for a rookie driver who only had four Xfinity Series races to his name entering 2025. But if there was one driver who could prove such a ranking to be warranted, it has been Zilisch, who holds steady in this rendition's top five. There have, admittedly, been bumps in the road; the 18-year-old started the season with two consecutive DNFs. But the upside has also been apparent, including a pole start and first-place finish at Circuit of The Americas in March and a near-clinic of a showing not even one month later at Martinsville. Analysis: Jones is easily the biggest mover in this installment, given he was unranked in the preseason rankings. He's also arguably been one of the bigger surprises so far this season; the No. 20 pilot, nine races into his Joe Gibbs Racing return, sits seventh in the driver standings and captured his first Xfinity Series win at Darlington Raceway in April … a triumph that snapped a 98-race winless skid. One could say he has transitioned nicely in his return to JGR digs, and one could also say there's still more in the tank; a scary proposition for other title contenders. Analysis: A huge chunk of the rookie fanfare might be on Zilisch, but it's time to give Kvapil, his JR Motorsports teammate, his due. After all, his three top fives match the totals from other Xfinity Series regulars like Jones and Sheldon Creed, and it even surpasses that of others, including Love and Sammy Smith. And it's not like the 21-year-old is lucking into these finishes, either; his 8.2 average start currently ranks fifth among full-timers. Take note: Kvapil is only going to get better. Analysis: Smith's 'worst' finish so far in 2025 has been a 24th-place result during the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway, which, given that anything can happen at Daytona, isn't the end of the world in the slightest. Seven of his other eight finishes so far this season have yielded results of 14th or better, and his 10.0 average start and 12.3 average finish illustrate solid, consistent results, a good framework to build upon as the regular season continues. Finding enough race-ending speed to clinch a victory — reminiscent of his win at Talladega Superspeedway last October — is next on the docket. Analysis: It's been a slow brew for Creed in 2025, and while his three top-five finishes are undoubtedly solid on the surface, the No. 00 has yet to find consistent speed at the front of the field, leading only nine laps to date this season. That said, 2024 started off slowly for Creed as well, tallying only three top fives and leading four laps through the first nine races. In other words, expect more up-front racing for the 27-year-old California native … and perhaps a trip to Victory Lane in due time. Analysis: Sieg is currently on pace for a career-best 15 top-10s in what is his 12th full-time Xfinity Series campaign; his four top 10s so far this season are tied for seventh in the field. This is made even more impressive given the fact he had finishes of 19th, 20th and 19th through the first three races to begin the campaign. Being the steady veteran Sieg is, it wouldn't (and, frankly, shouldn't) be a shock if this pace continues. Advertisement Fun fact: Sieg is one of only three Xfinity Series drivers entered in Saturday's race to previously turn laps at Rockingham in race conditions, joining Kasey Kahne and Jeb Burton. Analysis: Nine races into 2025, and the Xfinity rookie Dye already has accrued three top 10s. Why is this significant? Well, that total already surpasses the two top 10s he accumulated during a 10-race part-time Xfinity stint in 2024. And while his Kaulig Racing teammate — and fellow rookie — Christian Eckes might have more top 10s to his name (four), Dye has shown more consistency in finishing races, with only one DNF on the No. 10's ledger. Analysis: Two consecutive top 10s to begin 2025 emphasized just what Burton can bring to AM Racing in what is his first full-time Xfinity season since 2021. A pair of stage victories — including one most recently at Darlington Raceway in April — additionally illustrated Burton's capability to race at the front of the field and collect valuable points, which could prove vital down the road. This is all to say something relatively straightforward: Burton and AM Racing might hit a bump here and there, but the capability to race at the front of the field is very much real, and that's all you can ask for.
