Puerto Vallarta Shines as a Top Summer Destination for American Travelers
From sea turtle releases and jungle excursions to award-winning dining without the crowds, this is the season to experience Mexico's Pacific paradise for lessNEW YORK, June 03, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As American travelers plan their summer getaways, Puerto Vallarta continues to secure its status as a must-visit international hotspot. According to the latest Allianz Partners USA report, nearly a third, or 29%, of U.S. flights are bound for international locales this summer, with Mexico claiming three of the top 10 destinations. Among these, Puerto Vallarta stands out for its seamless blend of natural beauty, cultural richness and abundance of outdoor adventures. This vibrant city, tucked between the Sierra Madre Mountains and Banderas Bay on Mexico's Pacific coast, is a premier beach vacation destination supported by 27 direct air routes from the U.S. Summer visitors are rewarded with lush green landscapes, fewer crowds and valuable savings on both accommodations and activities, making it a perfect time to experience the city's signature mix of adventure, relaxation and charm. WHAT TO DO Sea Turtle Releases: From July through December, the city's beaches become the setting for one of nature's most moving events: the release of sea turtle hatchlings. Guided by marine biologists and conservation experts, these sunset events invite visitors to witness hatchlings make their way to the ocean, while learning about the species' biology and the importance of protecting their fragile ecosystems. Guests can take part in releases at participating hotels including Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa and Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta, both recognized for their longstanding conservation efforts. Boca de Tomates Turtle Camp offers a hands-on experience that includes adopting nests and assisting with releases, while tour operators such as Wildlife Connection and Ecotours Vallarta lead small-group excursions that help fund critical preservation work. Explore Lush Landscapes: Summer rains transform Puerto Vallarta into a lush, green escape, creating perfect conditions for outdoor exploration. Canopy River leads adrenaline-filled adventures through the Sierra Madre Mountains, including ziplining, ATV rides and suspension bridge treks. For a quieter experience, scenic hikes like the coastal trail from Las Ánimas to Quimixto offer sweeping ocean views and the chance to spot local wildlife. South of the city, the Vallarta Botanical Gardens span 46 acres of native flora, riverside swimming spots and peaceful walking paths, making it a favorite for nature lovers. Dining Without the Crowds: With fewer travelers in town, summer is the ideal time to explore the city's celebrated culinary scene. Acclaimed restaurants such as ICÚ, known for contemporary tasting menus that reimagine traditional Mexican dishes with regional influences; Tintoque, a chic destination for modern Mexican cuisine; and MAKAL, in the heart of the Romantic Zone and praised for its creative, ingredient-driven approach, serve innovative dishes in refined yet relaxed settings. The quieter pace allows guests to savor world-class cuisine without the usual wait. WHERE TO STAY As Puerto Vallarta enters its low season, travelers can take advantage of summer deals on accommodations across the city. For Families: Velas VallartaThis beachfront all-inclusive resort in the heart of Marina Vallarta offers serene views of the Sierra Madre Mountains and is a favorite for multigenerational vacations. Families enjoy spacious suites, three pools, a kids' club and daily entertainment. The Summer Presale 2025 package, available to book through June 3 for travel from June 1 to August 31, includes complimentary stays for children ages 4 to 12, 50% off for teens, a suite upgrade, $300 in resort credit, discounts on golf, early check-in or late check-out and the signature Kawitu Experience. The experience includes butler service, rejuvenating spa treatments, themed dinners with live entertainment on select nights and a serene beachfront setting designed for a stylish and relaxing escape. For LGBTQ+ Travelers: ALMAR ResortLocated in the heart of the Romantic Zone (often referred to as the 'Gayborhood'), ALMAR Resort is the city's only luxury LGBTQ+ beachfront property, known for its Oceanview suites, lively pool scene and inclusive atmosphere. From July 25 to 28, it will host the inaugural POSH PVR Escape, a three-day celebration of music, themed parties and curated experiences. POSH is internationally known for its high-energy events at Art Basel, Fashion Weeks in New York and Paris, and Pride celebrations in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York. For Luxury Seekers: Casa KimberlyOnce the former residence of Elizabeth Taylor, this intimate nine-suite boutique hotel captures the charm of old Hollywood glamour paired with modern indulgence. About Puerto VallartaNestled between the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains and Banderas Bay on Mexico's balmy Pacific coast, Puerto Vallarta is the quintessential Mexican beach destination. Puerto Vallarta's year-round warm climate, easy direct access from major markets in the United States and Canada, and a range of accommodation options have made it a top choice for a stress-free tropical escape. Authentic culture can be discovered around every corner in Puerto Vallarta, from the charming cobblestone streets downtown to the art-filled Malecon, and the lively Romantic Zone – a favorite enclave amongst LGBTQ+ travelers. Even If Your Passport Is Currently Valid, You May Not Be Able to Enter These Countries
Some countries require that your passport is valid three or even six months beyond your date of departure, so be sure to check your destination's requirements as you plan your U.S. outbound international travel on the rise—according to Allianz Partners USA, summer travel to Europe is projected to rise by 10 percent in 2025—it's more important than ever to double-check your travel documents. Before booking an international trip, it's essential to check passport rules and expiration requirements—otherwise, you could be denied entry at your destination. As Ravi Kumar, owner and global passports and visas advisor at A1 Passport & Visa in New York City, explains, "Most of our clients in such situations complain that the airlines did not inform them about the passport validity rules when purchasing the tickets, and the airlines say that their job is to sell tickets and not deal with the immigration requirements of destination countries." In the end, the burden of due diligence falls on the traveler. To get the most accurate, up-to-date information, check the immigration website of the country you're visiting—it's the best way to avoid any unexpected hiccups. Kumar explains that travelers who don't meet entry requirements are often denied boarding at the airport. If an oversight happens and they slip through, he tells Travel + Leisure that the traveler "will be refused entry upon arrival at the destination country, where they will be forced to purchase a return ticket on the spot to their home country and sent back." When that happens, it's more than just stressful—it can upend your entire trip and lead to unexpected expenses. "Due to these passport validity requirements, travelers often have to postpone or cancel their trips," says Kumar. If your passport is set to expire soon and you have an international trip on the horizon, don't fret—there are a couple of ways to fast-track renewal. Kumar recommends booking an appointment at the nearest government passport agency, though availability can be limited and you must meet certain requirements. Another option is to use a third-party passport expediting service. Don't let an expired passport ruin your travel plans: These countries require a valid passport upon arrival and for the duration of your stay. Keep in mind that some destinations may also have additional entry requirements, so it's essential to check the latest guidelines before you go. For example, as of this year, the United Kingdom requires U.S. travelers to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arrival. In Japan, U.S. citizens can visit for up to 90 days without a visa, but they must show proof of an onward or return ticket upon entry. Anguilla Aruba Australia The Bahamas Barbados Belize Canada Cayman Islands (British Overseas Territory) Colombia (though the U.S. Department of State recommends six months' validity) Costa Rica Dominica Dominican Republic Ireland Jamaica Japan Mexico Montserrat Nicaragua Saint Lucia Saint Martin Saint Vincent and the Grenadines United Kingdom Planning a European getaway? Note that your passport must be valid for at least three months after your arrival—a requirement enforced by all 29 Schengen Area countries. Plus, beginning in late 2026, U.S. travelers will also need to obtain travel authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before visiting most European countries, including the aforementioned Schengen nations, which we've listed below: Austria Belgium Bulgaria Croatia Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Italy Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Malta The Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland Several other countries enforce the three-month passport rule, including: Albania Bosnia and Herzegovina Honduras Panama Turks and Caicos New Zealand The following destinations have some of the strictest passport rules, requiring at least six months of validity beyond your arrival date. Because they're less forgiving, they call for extra planning, so check your passport well in advance and renew if needed. Antigua and Barbuda Bhutan Botswana Brunei Cambodia China Ecuador Egypt Fiji French Territories in the Pacific (including French Polynesia) Grenada India Indonesia Israel Jordan Kenya Kuwait Laos Madagascar Malaysia Mongolia Nepal Nigeria Oman Papua New Guinea Peru Philippines Qatar Rwanda Saint Kitts and Nevis Saudi Arabia Singapore Sri Lanka Thailand Trinidad and Tobago Turkey Uganda United Arab Emirates Vietnam Passport validity rules can vary by country and are subject to change. That's why, as a general rule of thumb, it's safest to have at least six months of validity on your passport before traveling outside the country. Read the original article on Travel & Leisure

Summer Vacation Confidence and Spend Reach Record Highs Despite Ongoing Economic Uncertainty
Allianz Partners USA's 17th Annual Vacation Confidence Index reveals Americans are prioritizing vacations more than ever before. RICHMOND, Va., May 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Amid economic pressures and budget constraints, Americans' confidence that they will take a summer vacation is at an all-time high, according to Allianz Partners USA 's annual Vacation Confidence Index*. This year, six in ten (63%) Americans are confident they will take a summer vacation. Record highs in confidence are matched by record highs in vacation spend with Americans projected to spend $226.6 billion on summer vacations this year. The travel insurance and assistance provider found this year's anticipated spend is up 2.26% from 2024 - signaling a form of vacation resilience where Americans are prioritizing time away. This year's spending record continues a six-year climb, with annual estimates more than doubling since 2019's $101.7 billion – indicating a post-pandemic shift in travel behavior. The upward trend in average anticipated spending per household remains robust. In 2025, this amount is expected to reach $2,867, marking a modest rise from $2,843 in 2024. 'Despite increased pressure on wallets and ongoing travel cost inflation, we are still seeing Americans prioritize vacations this year,' says Emily Hartman, General Manager at Allianz Partners USA. 'The ongoing increase in spending signals that Americans view travel as a primary goal when setting up budgets and financial plans. As travelers plan their next vacation, one item that's important not to forget is travel insurance. After months, maybe even years of planning, it makes sense to have a safety net to protect your investment.' 2025 Key Trends The 2025 Vacation Confidence Index highlighted the following emerging behaviors from U.S. travelers: Vacation Resiliency Despite half of Americans (51%) saying they can't afford a vacation, 4 in 10 are confident they will take one anyway – a continuation of the 'justi-vacation' trend the Vacation Confidence Index identified last year. ('Justi-vacation' is when someone takes a vacation despite not being able to afford the expenses that come with traveling.) 'Since the start of the Vacation Confidence Index, we've seen Americans place a greater emphasis on vacations,' says Daniel Durazo, Director of External Communications at Allianz Partners USA. 'This year we saw that at an all-time high with 75% of Americans considering annual vacations important to them regardless of their ability to take vacations. This consistent prioritization is an indication of the ways Americans want to live and learn – we don't expect it to shift anytime soon.' The Vacation Confidence Index has been conducted each summer since 2009 by national polling firm Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of Allianz Partners USA. A vacation is defined as a leisure trip of at least one week to a place that is 100 miles or more from home. Allianz Partners offers travel insurance through most major U.S. airlines, leading travel agents, online travel agencies, hotel companies, cruise lines and directly to consumers. For more information on Allianz Partners and available travel policies, please visit * *Methodology: These are the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Allianz Partners. For this survey, a sample of 2,005 Americans aged 18+ was interviewed from April 14 to 15, 2025 via the Ipsos Online Omnibus. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the results are accurate to within +/- 2.7 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what the results would have been had all American adults been polled. Quota sampling and weighting were employed in order to balance demographics and ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the actual U.S. population, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Credibility intervals are wider among subsets of the population.
