Sentnor and Biyendolo score 2 each and US women beat Jamaica 4-0

Associated Press ST. LOUIS (AP) — Ally Sentnor and Lynn Biyendolo each scored two goals and the United States beat Jamaica 4-0 on Tuesday night after the team honored longtime defender Becky Sauerbrunn. Sentnor scored in the 19th minute, then formed a heart with her hands in celebration. She scored her second off a deflection 10 minutes later. The 21-year-old 2024 U.S. Soccer Young Player of the Year, who now has four international goals, credited her teammates. "They're really easy to play with at moving the ball," Sentnor said. 'I'm still trying to work to get better for them.' Biyendolo scored in the 60th minute, three minutes after coming into the game as a substitute. She added a second in the 88th minute off a cross from Avery Patterson. Biyendolo has 24 career goals. 'I do feel like, there is so much more to us than there was 12 months ago. And that's how you have to look at progress," coach Emma Hayes said. 'With Ally Sentnor, unbelievable finisher. Lynn Biyendolo, to come into a game and close it out, (it's) really good for us to have both those options.' Phallon Tullis-Joyce made her second consecutive in goal for the United States as Hayes looks for a successor to longtime goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who retired last year. It was her third straight clean sheet. While Tullis-Joyce didn't face any shots on goal, it has been important for her to build connections with her teammates, Hayes said. 'When you play in goal for this team, your behaviors have to be that you wait for one moment, and you have to be alert to that. I can see the progress is being made in Phallon's game, and I'm quite happy that she had a really quiet evening,' Hayes said. Jamaica, which has never beaten the U.S, started two sets of sisters — Allyson and Chantelle Swaby, and Kalyssa and Amelia Van Zanten. The U.S. was coming off a 3-0 victory over China on Saturday in St. Paul, Minnesota. The national team was originally scheduled to play a pair of matches against China, but Chinese officials in April pulled out of the second game and Jamaica filled the spot. Before the game, the United States honored Sauerbrunn, who retired from soccer late last year. The St. Louis native, whose international career spanned 16 years, is a two-time Women's World Cup winner and an Olympic gold medalist. Fans, who received a bobblehead in her image, gave her a standing ovation and chanted her name in a pregame ceremony. Sauerbrunn, who recently announced that she is expecting her first child with partner Zola Short, also served in her new role as a television commentator for the match. The United States next plays a pair of matches against Ireland, the first on June 26 in Commerce City, Colorado, and the second on June 29 in Cincinnati. The U.S. will also play Canada on July 6 in Washington D.C. ___ AP soccer: recommended

USWNT maintain dominance of Jamaica behind Sentnor and Biyendolo doubles

Ally Sentnor's first-half brace and two goals by second-half substitute Lynn Biyendolo helped the US women's national team continue their dominance over Jamaica with an easy 4-0 victory in a friendly in St Louis on Tuesday. Sentnor scored in the 19th and 28th minutes and Phallon Tullis-Joyce recorded her third shutout in as many career matches. That should be no surprise. The US have won all six matches in the series by shutout, scoring at least four goals in each. Biyendolo made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, minutes after coming off the bench. She capped the scoring in the 88th minute on a cross by Avery Patterson for her 24th goal. Patterson got her first US assist. The US had huge advantages in shot attempts (23-2), shots on goals (10-0) and corner kicks (12-0) and while maintaining 82.4 percent possession. Sentnor doubled her US output in her ninth match (fourth start). She opened the scoring by taking a setup by Emily Fox and one-touching a shot to the lower left corner. She was in the right spot for the second score. Alyssa Thompson's shot was blocked, but the ball came to Sam Coffey. An attempt by Coffey went off Jamaican defender Chantelle Swaby directly to Sentnor, who was subbed off the 67th minute. The lead went to 3-0 after the US had done nothing on its first 11 corner kicks. But on the next one, Biyendolo scored on a rebound of a Claire Hutton header. The US opened the two-match window with a 3-0 win against China on Saturday. Next are matches v Ireland on 26 June and 29 June in Commerce City, Colorado, and Cincinnati, respectively. The final summer match will be against Canada in Washington DC on July 6. She had been absent due to several nagging injuries after starting 18 matches in 2024. She was a part of a 27th shutout in her 44th start.

USWNT cruises to easy win in friendly vs. Jamaica: Highlights Show Caption Hide Caption Sydney Leroux talks all things women's soccer and NWSL Sydney Leroux stops by to break down women's soccer and tells us about her new partnership with ARDA, the Sharing Time Off Contest. Sports Seriously The U.S. women's national team breezed past Jamaica Tuesday night, running up a 4-0 scoreline in a friendly at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri. Ally Sentnor and Lynn Biyendolo both provided two goals. Sentnor, the Utah Royals attacker, did her damage by scoring twice in a nine-minute span in the first half, while Biyendolo came off the bench to score with her first touch, then provided the final margin with an 88th-minute finish. With USWNT legend and St. Louis native Becky Sauerbrunn honored before kickoff, the USWNT made light work of a Reggae Girlz side missing some of its biggest names. The U.S. would finish the match with 82% possession, while goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce did not have to register a save on either of Jamaica's two shot attempts. U.S. coach Emma Hayes got more things to think about long-term, with Kerry Abello going the full 90 in her first-ever USWNT appearance. Claire Hutton and Avery Patterson, who were in that situation very recently, played major roles in USWNT goals on the night, while Ajax youngster Lily Yohannes pulled the strings in a more advanced role than she played in the 3-0 win over China on May 31.
