Marco Rubio Says US ‘Committed' to Russian People
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the U.S. "remains committed to supporting the Russian people" as they mark a national holiday.
The statement issued Thursday to coincide with Russia Day said that the U.S. wants "constructive engagement" with Moscow to bring about a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Rubio's comments was widely reported by Russian state media and it appears to be the first time the U.S. has issued a statement about Russia Day since 2021, the year before the start of Moscow's full-scale invasion.
"It is our hope that peace will foster more mutually beneficial relations between our countries," the statement added.
This is a developing story to be updated.
