Hospital security guard arrested over viral RM50 extortion video
KAJANG: Police have arrested a hospital security guard after a viral video allegedly showed her extorting RM50 from a visitor — an incident that has triggered widespread outrage on social media.
Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yudof said the 55-second clip, uploaded to the TikTok account @Allyszackry, began circulating on May 19.
The video reportedly shows a female security guard demanding RM50 from a visitor outside a hospital in Selangor, believed to be compensation over a parking dispute.
The incident occurred on Dec 23, 2024, at 4pm.
"In the video, the guard is seen and heard allegedly using threatening and inappropriate language, which led to accusations of misconduct and extortion," he said.
Naazron said a 31-year-old local woman lodged a police report at 11.27pm on May 19.
"Acting on the report, police arrested a 28-year-old local woman who works as a security guard.
"She was remanded for two days from May 19 to assist investigations," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years' jail, a fine, whipping, or any combination of the three.
Investigations are also being conducted under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which provides for a fine of up to RM100 upon conviction.
