Alpine To Replace Jack Doohan? F1 Team Contemplating Major Change After Miami GP: Report

Last Updated: The driver has been dogged for months by questions about his future, with Alpine signing Argentine Franco Colapinto from Williams as a reserve before the start of the season. Alpine Racing is considering replacing driver Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto for the next Formula One race at Imola, Italy, ESPN reported on Monday. Doohan, 22 and son of motorcycle great Mick, has yet to score a point in six races this season and one at the end of 2024. The driver has been dogged for months by questions about his future, with Alpine signing Argentine Franco Colapinto from Williams as a reserve before the start of the season. Olapinto raced nine times for Williams last year as a replacement for dropped American Logan Sargeant and scored five points, with a best finish of eighth in Azerbaijan. The Argentine's name routinely has been considered as a replacement for Doohan, who has struggled so far through his rookie season. Per the report, Horacio Marin, CEO of the Argentine energy company YPF, was caught off-microphone in a recent interview saying Colapinto would be in the car for the May 18 race in Italy. Speculation has been rampant given Doohan's poor start, including a first-lap crash at the Australian Grand Prix on March 16 and four penalty points at the Chinese Grand Prix a week later. The 22-year-old Australian also crashed in the second free practice session ahead of the April 6 Japanese Grand Prix. Alpine team boss Ollie Oakes cancelled his regular media session after Sunday's race in which Doohan collided with New Zealander Liam Lawson's Racing Bulls on the opening lap and retired. Alpine are ninth of the 10 teams in the constructors' standings. 'As it is today, Jack is our driver along with Pierre (Gasly)," Oakes had said on Friday when asked to confirm Doohan would be in the car at Imola. 'We always evaluate, but yeah. Today, that is the case." Doohan, however, kept his spirits up after an opening-lap incident with Liam Lawson at the Miami Grand Prix. 'As we all know, nothing would be intentional," Doohan said. 'Unfortunately, he got squeezed there. I don't know, maybe he had a car on his outside. We just have to look into it because it didn't end well for me, and I don't think it helped him out as well. 'We've just got to keep our heads up. Looking forward to Imola now." First Published: May 06, 2025, 13:34 IST

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes pack on the PDA at Miami Grand Prix after partying with Tom Brady

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes packed on the PDA on Sunday as they enjoyed the Miami Grand Prix. Patrick, a three-time Super Bowl winner with the Chiefs, is a co-owner of Alpine Racing, and was on hand to watch the team's drivers, Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan. And he and Brittany looked to be in good spirits as they watched the race from a hospitality suite, as the parents of three puckered their lips for the camera. The couple, both 29 years old, welcomed daughter Golden in January, and also share son Patrick ('Bronze') and daughter Sterling. Brittany and Patrick's outing at the Grand Prix comes after the quarterback introduced his wife to Tom Brady earlier in the weekend. The meeting occurred at the Carbone Beach party in Magic City, where video showed Patrick stopping a conversation short with Brady to introduce his wife. Former USWNT soccer player Ashlyn Harris and NBA player Kevin Love were also with the group as they pulled out their best moves to the music playing inside the swanky venue. Upon meeting, Brady stood up from his chair to hug Brittany with Patrick watching on from a few feet away. According to Page Six, the couple were mingling backstage with Jelly Roll, who took to the stage later in the evening to perform some of his best hits. Brittany and Patrick were far from the only big names to attend the Miami Grand Prix over the weekend. Actor Timotheee Chalamet was seen on the paddock on Sunday, as he was seen shaking hands with Campos Racing's Rafaela Ferreira. Singer and actor Lisa was also in attendance, as was Gordon Ramsay and his wife, Tana. Boxer Connor Benn was also in attendance, as was a great of the sport, Evander Holyfield. Donald Trump 's teenage granddaughter Kai also shared a series of photos from her trip to the Miami Grand Prix after having a blast at the Formula One showpiece this weekend. The race was ultimately won by McLaren's Oscar Piastri. Lando Norris and George Russell finished second and third respectively.

Reports: Alpine sticking with Jack Doohan for now

April 14 - Jack Doohan's seat is safe at Alpine Racing for the immediate future, multiple outlets reported Monday. The 22-year-old Formula One rookie has been under a spotlight all season based on reports that the team might replace him with reserve driver Franco Colapinto after six races. There have been four Grand Prix races thus far in 2025. Speculation intensified after Doohan's poor start, including a first-lap crash at the Australian Grand Prix on March 16 and four penalty points at the Chinese Grand Prix a week later. Doohan also crashed in the second free practice session ahead of the April 6 Japanese Grand Prix. The Australian is coming off a strong performance Sunday at the Bahrain Grand Prix, where he started 11th and ran well before fading and finishing 14th. "Jack, to give him credit, he's learning well," team principal Oliver Oakes said after the race, per Racing News 365. "You never get much credit in F1 when you're a youngster and everyone's sort of looking at what you're up to. But I think he'll definitely feel more confident after this weekend."
