Volleyball: Ishikawa helps Parugia win 1st Champions League title
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan attacker Yuki Ishikawa scored 20 points as Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia of Italy beat Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie of Poland 3-2 to win the men's volleyball Champions League on Sunday.
Ishikawa moved from Milano to Perugia last summer and helped his new team claim the title for the first time with the 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-10 victory at Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland.
The outside hitter was the second top scorer for Perugia behind Tunisian Wassim Ben Tara's 22.
"I think I'm the first Japanese man to win the European Champions League, so I'm happy to make history," Ishikawa said on the social media platform X.
American Aaron Russell, who played for JT Thunders in Hiroshima for two seasons until last summer, led the game with 25 points for Zawiercie.
