Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds praises Derry-born captain James McClean comparing him to ‘grumpy' Samuel L Jackson

McClean has caused controversy in the past over his vocal political stances. Besides his footballing prowess and status as Wrexham's captain, McClean is also known for his refusal to wear a poppy during matches. But Reynolds, who bought over Wrexham FC back in 2020 with Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney, has lavished praise on the midfielder. 'There is a burning, fearsome, 5000 kelvin oven inside that guy that is remarkable, and one of my favourite players to watch,' the Deadpool actor said. The 48-year-old The Hitman's Bodyguard actor went on to compare the Londonderry-born sportsman to his 'grumpy' co-star and Hollywood icon Samuel L Jackson. Speaking to the Fearless in Devotion Podcast, Reynolds said: 'I grew up as the youngest of four boys, right, I have a people-pleasing gene in me somewhere. I always love the guys that don't have that,' he said. 'I gravitate towards grumpy people. Samuel L Jackson can be a grumpy person and he's one of my favourite human beings on planet earth because of it. 'I love it. James has a bit of that.' McClean captained the Wrexham side which was promoted to the Championship this year marking the third promotion for the club since Reynolds and McElhenney bought it. The Marvel actor's 'favourite' player scored four goals in his 41 games with the Welsh team. Following stints with Derry City, Sunderland, West Brom and Stroke City, McClean joined the team in the summer of 2023. In his first season, he helped elevate the club from League Two to League One. The player who once bore a 'Free Derry' tattoo and compared British soldiers to 'terrorists' is known for stirring controversy with his political beliefs and recently caused a stir by branding the city of Shewsbury, as a 'cesspit'. Last November, McClean refused to wear a football shirt with the Remembrance Day poppy on it for their match against Mansfield. During the League One fixture he stood away from his teammates during a minutes silence to maintain the stance he has taken for over a decade in the Premier League – he first refused to wear the emblem at Sunderland in 2012. 'The poppy represents for me an entire different meaning to what it does for others,' he wrote on Instagram in November. 'Am I offended by someone wearing a poppy? No absolutely not, what does offend me though is having the poppy try be forced up on me. 'If the poppy's purpose was to honour World War one and two, then I would have no issue wearing it.' Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds celebrate Wrexham's Championship promotion Reynolds and McElhenney's ownership Wrexham has been a fruitful endeavour. In the season before before the 2020 purchase, the club brought in £1.15m. Following the deal, which was made official in 2021, Wrexham saw exponential growth bringing in £10.5m. The 2023-24 season saw an even larger revenue of £26.7m – a record for their League Two status at the time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger sends fans wild as he reunites with Twins co-star Danny DeVito for new photo - which 'randomly' features former PM Tony Blair

Arnold Schwarzenegger sent fans wild as he reunited with Twins co-star Danny DeVito for his latest post on Instagram - which bizarrely featured former Prime Minister Tony Blair. Schwarzenegger and DeVito, 77 and 80, starred in the 1988 film with the former playing the streetwise Vincent and the latter cast as his twin, the intelligent but naive Julius. The movie was iconic, grossing more than $216million and marking Schwarzenegger's first stab at a comedic role alongside acting royalty DeVito. So fans were understandably excited to see the duo had reunited for a photo on Arnold's Instagram on Monday, with the post racking up more than 200,000 likes in a matter of hours. The picture showed the actors stood either side of British politician Tony Blair, 71, with the trio all cracking beaming smiles as they stood arm-in-arm next to a swimming pool. 'I love bringing old friends back together,' Schwarzenegger captioned the post on his Instagram which racked up more than 200,000 likes in a matter of hours 'I love bringing old friends back together,' Schwarzenegger's caption gushed. 'It was fantastic to see my dear friend Tony Blair and introduce him to my brother, @dannydevito. 'I can't wait to talk about termination pollution together in Vienna at the @schwarzeneggerclimate summit!' Film fanatics were quick to take to the comments section to express their excitement at Schwarzenegger and DeVito's link-up, though some called Blair's inclusion 'random'. One commented: 'All legends in their own right!' 'These three together looks like the start of an Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode,' quipped another.' While one more simply wrote: 'This has got to be the most random link-up ever.' Schwarzenegger and Blair actually collaborated during the actor's time as Governor of California, nevertheless. In fact, the governor was Blair's final guest during his time as PM when he visited Downing Street in 2007. The pair had met to discuss climate issues and low-carbon economies - environmental issues which Schwarzenegger has been vocal about. And Blair and Schwarzenegger's meeting, alongside DeVito, comes a few weeks before they will all discuss climate issues at the actor's ninth annual conference in June. Only last year, the iconic acting duo sent fans into a frenzy when they reunited onstage at the Oscars more than 30 years after the release of Twins. Schwarzenegger and DeVito took to the stage in March 2024 to present the award for best visual effects of the year, which was handed to Godzilla: Minus One. Just a matter of days after their reunion at the Oscars, film fanatics' excitement was compounded when DeVito revealed that he and his former co-star may have another film in the works. Speaking to Fox News, he said: 'Mr Schwarzenegger, he's like my buddy, we're trying to do another movie together. 'There's a script being written, we're working with Warner Brothers right now, we want to get back on the big screen together. 'It won't be a sequel, Ivan [Reitman who directed Twins] is no longer with us. I knew Arnold before twins, I'd see him once in a while, we're looking forward to getting back on the screen together. 'So next year, fingers crossed, we'll be back in production with something We always have a good time together, he's a sweet guy.' There is yet to be any further updates on a potential new movie, however. The 1988 film Twins saw the duo portraying genetically engineered siblings who only crossed paths when they reached adulthood. The iconic stars were involved in a long-in-the-works sequel to Twins called Triplets, where the brothers would discover that they're actually triplets. There were reports suggesting Eddie Murphy would be joining the cast of the sequel, and Tracy Morgan was even reportedly set to take on a new role in the film. However, the project was put on hold after the original film's director, Ivan Reitman, passed away at the age of 75 in February 2022. Ivan's son and Hollywood heavyweight director, Jason Reitman, was then pitched the film but, according to Schwarzenegger, he was the one to give it the red light. The only other time Schwarzenegger and DeVito had appeared together on-screen was for the 1994 film, Junior.

Doctor Odyssey Just Aired Its Sexiest Episode Yet — And Delivered Another Pregnancy Twist

Don't let the mention of vaginismus throw you off. Doctor Odyssey Episode 16 is the ABC sudser's sexist hour yet. Sure, we've already been gifted a Doctor Odyssey threesome, but that only lasted a few seconds before the credits started to roll. Ever since, we've been begging for steam, flirtation and good old-fashioned (broadcast TV-appropriate) sex! This week, the series finally scratched that itch with the arrival of sex therapist Mona Yeager, played by Whitney Cummings. The Amazing Race: Phil Drops Another Big Surprise Twist on the Racers The sexpert, who is suffering from a serious case of vaginismus (!), boards the ship to promote her latest book. Turns out, Avery is a devoted fan. Despite formally rejecting both of her love interests at the top of the hour, Avery becomes inspired — overwhelmed, even — by Mona's sex-positive advice. Our buttoned-up nurse goes and buys herself a new adult toy to 'blaze her own trail,' as Mona says. In the meantime, she can't help but ogle at Dr. Max's butt and Tristan's abs. The woman is in heat! Later, when Mona hears about Avery's awkward relationship with Max and Tristan, she wants to help. She urges her new friend to 'have sex with one of them… and then the other.' So, Avery takes that advice and runs with it all the way to her co-workers, delivering a new proposal: casual crew sex! Physical intimacy without emotional intimacy! Max, of course, says no. He's not the type for flings like that, and ultimately declares his undying love for Avery. (Max, get a grip.) Tristan, however, is all in — and things don't take long to heat up. One simple brush of the arm is all Avery needs to hop into a cabin and rip Tristan's clothes off. The two share an intimate moment… and another… and then one more before the episode ends. Finally, we get to see our girl get her gears greased and let loose! But not everyone shares Avery's Episode 16 euphoria. Captain Massey receives some bad news: On land, Heather has lost the baby, so he's no longer a daddy-to-be. (Considering the show's affinity for a pregnancy plotline, however, I'm sure Doctor Odyssey can cook up another twist to make up for the loss.) What did you think of s latest sexcapades? Ryan Reynolds' 'expletive-laden rant' blew away Wrexham players in difficult moment

Ryan Reynolds' 'expletive-laden rant' blew away Wrexham players in difficult moment Reynolds and co-owner Rob McElhenney played an important role as their side sealed promotion to the Championship Reynolds reportedly launched into an X-rated rant to motivate the Wrexham squad Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's genuine love for Wrexham AFC has been laid bare once again, with the club's co-owners revealed to have delivered their own impassioned speeches to players at crucial stages of the season. The two Hollywood actors watched on as their side sealed unprecedented back-to-back-to-back promotions, with their 3-0 win over Charlton on Saturday sealing their place in the Championship next season. While they were languishing in non-league when Reynolds and McElhenney bought the club in 2021, they now found themselves just one tier down from the Premier League after a whirlwind four years. ‌ Having overseen an incredible rise through the ranks, the pair have been credited with transforming a struggling football club and the city as a whole, but have also faced their fair share of criticism. ‌ Over the past few years, they have been accused of cheerleading from afar, pumping money into the club but only turning up for moments of celebration rather than darker points in the season. However, as the weekend's promotion party starts to settle down, details of Reynolds and McElhenney's crucial interventions at key points in the campaign have emerged, with the actors launching into remarkable speeches in an effort to try and rally their squad. While they may not have known much about football before joining the club, instead leaving Phil Parkinson and his coaching team run things from that side, it has been revealed that they both played a key part in turning around results that had a big impact in their fight for promotion. Article continues below In the wake of Saturday's celebrations, players revealed to Mail Sport that, earlier in the month, Reynolds had delivered an "expletive-laden rant" to the squad as he looked to motivate them to bounce back from a disappointing result. After being held to a 2-2 draw away to now-relegated Cambridge United at the start of April, the Deadpool star is said to have "gathered the players in a huddle" in the changing rooms ahead of their next match against Burton Albion and launched into the rant. Ultimately, it worked as Wrexham thumped Burton 3-0 and were able to take control of their own destiny again in the race for automatic promotion. ‌ But when that was taken out of their hands again less than two weeks later, after another draw against Bristol Rovers - who have also now been relegated - it was McElhenney's time to step in. In what has been described by players as the "lightning rod" that helped pushed them over the line and seal promotion to the Championship, the Always Sunny actor is said to have delivered a passionate 10-minute speech to the squad, 24 hours before facing Blackpool in a must-win match on Easter Monday. With the squad left in awe, Wrexham midfielder George Dobson told Mail Sport that the moment was "unbelievable, really". Article continues below "He just said there's no pressure, go back to that 12-year-old boy and just play as you would as a kid with your friends," he added. "It was just along those lines but a really inspirational, motivational speech and the whole group bought into it. 'You can really sense in the way he was talking how much it meant to him. It was a really enjoyable 10 minutes or so and I really do think it helped the group."

And Just Like That's Big Season 3 Question: Should Carrie Wait Around for Aidan?

Just like the original Sex and the City, Max's sequel series And Just Like That… is all about romance — but I can't help but wonder if Carrie is making a mistake in her love life. Let's back up: In Season 2, Carrie reunited with her former fiancé Aidan, played by John Corbett, and they discovered the spark was still there between them. Carrie's husband Big had died, and Aidan was divorced, so it seemed like the stars were aligning for them to get a second chance at love together. They even picked out a new apartment together, but when Aidan's sons started having problems back home in Virginia, Aidan decided to move back there to take care of them. He didn't break up with Carrie, though. He asked her to give him some time — about five years, until his sons are grown up. So Carrie is supposed to sit around in a quiet room with her hands folded until Aidan decides to come back to New York to be with her? This is Carrie Freaking Bradshaw, people. She waits for no one! In Aidan's mind, they've already waited 20 years to get back together, so what's five more? But for people who must be nearing age 60 by now, five years is a substantial chunk of the time they've got left in this world. And as we saw with Big, lives can end in an instant, so there's no guarantee they'll both be around in five years for a happy reunion. It seems like wishful thinking that they can just press pause on their romance for half a decade and then pick up right where they left off. In the trailer for Season 3 (premiering May 29), Carrie and Aidan are exchanging blank postcards as a way to stay connected, and we see he pays a visit to her new apartment. But we also see Carrie connecting with a handsome new neighbor who calls her 'vibrant.' (Hmmm!) So will her bond with Aidan be able to survive these five years of long distance? I don't see it — but maybe the new competition will spur Aidan to move back sooner than expected. After all, she can't wait around forever. We want to know what you think: Should Carrie wait around for Aidan? Cast your vote in our poll below, and let us know your feelings heading into Season 3 in a comment below.
