CDCR: Alameda County rapist suspected of killing cellmate
(KRON) — A convicted Alameda County rapist is suspected of killing his cellmate in Mule Creek State Prison, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said. The rapist, 54-year-old Jesse A. Ferdin, was moved to a restrictive housing unit pending the homicide investigation. Longeno Jones, 51, was found 'unresponsive' on May 21 inside a cell he shared with Ferdin, according to CDCR. Jones was transported to the prison's triage area, where he was pronounced deceased by paramedics an hour later. Ferdin was convicted in Alameda County in 2018 of rape with force and violence. He was sentenced in 2019 to serve 12 years in prison. Jones was convicted in Los Angeles County in 2007 of first-degree burglary as a third strike offender. Northern California prison officials investigate murder of inmate
( — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials are investigating the death of an inmate at Mule Creek State Prison as a homicide. Around 5:14 p.m. on May 21, officers said they found Longeno Jones unresponsive in his cell during medication distribution. Jones' cellmate, Jesse A. Ferdin, was removed from the cell and placed in the restrictive housing unit while law enforcement investigated the scene. Jones was transported to the prison's triage and treatment area, where he was pronounced deceased by paramedics at 5:45 p.m. The incident is under investigation by MCSP Investigative Services Unit and the Amador County District Attorney's Office. Jones, 51, was received from Los Angeles County on July 19, 2007. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole for first-degree burglary as a third striker, with enhancements for prior prison term/nonviolent new offenses, and prior felony convictions of serious offenses. Ferdin, 54, was most recently received from Alameda County on Jan. 28, 2019. He was sentenced to twelve years for rape with force, violence, and fear of bodily injury as a second striker. Death of Mule Creek State Prison inmate being investigated as homicide
IONE – The death of an inmate at Mule Creek State Prison in Amador County is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Monday. Longeno Jones, 51, was found dead in his cell during medication distribution on the evening of May 21, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said. He was declared dead soon after in the prison's triage area. No details were released regarding the suspected manner of death. An Amador County coroner will determine the cause. Jesse Ferdin California Department of Corrections and Rehabiitation Jones had been at Mule Creek since July 2007, serving a life sentence following a first-degree burglary conviction as a third striker, CDCR said. Ferdin, who arrived at Mule Creek from Alameda County in 2019, is serving a 12-year sentence for rape. Jones' death is the second in as many months to be investigated as a homicide at Mule Creek State Prison. In early April, the CDCR said convicted child molester Robert E. Cole died after being found unresponsive in his cell. His cellmate was also placed in restrictive housing pending the investigation.

Cal Fire suspends burning in Northern California counties due to Red Flag Warning

Cal Fire said that due to the gusty winds, dry vegetation, and a Red Flag Warning, all burning in the state responsibility areas of Amador, El Dorado, Alpine & Sacramento counties have been suspended starting at midnight on Sunday.
