Woman was due to board flight home - but she was found dead in mysterious hotel fire

Amanda Borges da Silva, 30, was tragically found dead in a hotel room in the early hours of May 1 near Narita Airport in Tokyo where she should have boarded a flight home to Brazil A 30-year-old woman who was due to board a flight home was found dead hours later in a mysterious hotel fire, according to police. Amanda Borges da Silva, 30, from Brazil, was tragically discovered in a hotel room in the early hours of May 1 near the airport where she should have boarded a flight back home. ‌ Her devastated friend James Fernandes told local media: "She was located near Narita Airport in Tokyo, it was in the early hours of yesterday morning. Her flight was on Thursday." ‌ Silva, who had been out of São Paulo since March, had been working as a researcher when she was in a hotel that caught fire. The cause of the blaze is still unknown. According to police, a Sri Lankan man was arrested on suspicion of leaving the hotel without putting out the fire. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Brazilian Consulate General in Tokyo, confirmed they are assisting the 30-year-old's family and working with local authorities. The Brazilian's family is trying to raise money to help bring her body back. Meanwhile, friends paid tribute to the young woman who last posted photos of her at the Japanese GP Formula One. According to one follower, she was a huge fan of the sport. "Thank you for all the reels, memes and all the chats, especially those about Formula One, that we talked about", one follower said. " I promise to never forget you, my dear friend. Watch over us from wherever you are." The tragic death comes after a British woman was brutally stabbed to death outside her home in France this week while trying to "defend herself from a frenzied attack" after a wine -tasting party. Karen Carter, 65, was found unconscious and "covered in stab wounds" in the rural village of Trémolat, east of Bordeaux, on Tuesday evening. A 69-year-old woman, whom police confirmed was "part of the circle" of the victim, was arrested after the horror attack. An autopsy revealed Karen suffered from eight serious wounds - including to her chest, forearm and abdomen - and died "by haemorrhage following a wound to the aorta". The report added: "All the wounds suggest the victim was attempting to defend herself from a frenzied attack." Officials did not reveal the name of the woman who was detained but prosecutors provided details of Karen's final hours before her terrifying death. Karen's husband Alan Carter, who is at their home in East London, South Africa, said he was told about her death on a phone call from his cousin in Yorkshire, on Wednesday. He told The Times that Karen was at a wine-tasting event, a short car ride away from their home, on Tuesday evening.
