FIR against SHO for alleged extortion
Madhepura: The Baijnathpur police in Saharsa district lodged an FIR on Thursday evening against their own station house officer (SHO) for allegedly extorting money from a youth and coercing him to make payments via a digital platform.
The SHO, Amar Jyoti, and a trainee sub-inspector, Rupesh Kumar, were suspended on the directive of Saharsa SP Himanshu Kumar.
In a written complaint submitted to Saharsa SP, Abhinash Kumar, a resident of Pathraha village under Ghailardh police station in Madhepura district, alleged that he was intercepted by unknown people at the exit of Saharsa railway station on May 3 while returning from Patna. He was taken to a road near a cinema hall where a police vehicle was parked.
According to the complaint, three men inside the vehicle introduced themselves as SHO Baijnathpur, Mukesh Paswan and Rupesh. Abhinash alleged that they forcibly took him towards Baijnathpur in the vehicle where he was verbally abused and threatened. "They demanded Rs 1 lakh for my safe release, or I would be falsely implicated under the NDPS Act," he said.
He managed to communicate with his wife and father. His father arrived later that night and, after negotiations, agreed to pay Rs 80,000.
