Joshua, Amelie crowned champions at 10th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Golf Invitational
KUALA LUMPURL: Malaysia's rising golf star Joshua Lim and Singapore's Amelie Ng emerged as champions of the 10th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Golf Invitational, which concluded here yesterday.
Joshua clinched the Boys Under-18 title with a total of 217 strokes, narrowly edging out Taiwan's Lee Shu, who finished just one stroke behind at 218.
South Korea's Kang Geon also recorded 218 strokes but settled for third place based on a countback at the prestigious Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC).
Speaking after the prize-giving ceremony, Joshua expressed his delight at winning his first major title, crediting his daily training routine for the victory.
"I had to work really hard over the past three days due to the challenging course and the strong performances from all the competitors," said Joshua.
"I'm definitely happy to have won, and this is my first major title — my mother will be very proud too."
A total of 66 top junior golfers from six countries competed in the event, which featured both boys' and girls' categories for Under-15 and Under-18 age groups.
Participating nations included host Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, and Japan.
In the Girls Under-18 category, Singapore's Amelie Ng claimed the title with a three-day total of 223 strokes.
Thailand's Vichayada Reammuang finished second with 226, while Malaysia's Jamie Tan Huan Ying secured third place with 230 strokes.
Amelie, like Joshua, was thrilled with her performance and the title win, which caps off a strong showing by Southeast Asian golfers at the international event.
