Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been facing questions regarding the quarterback position throughout the course of the entire 2025 NFL offseason. Now, they have received a massive prediction from none other than President Donald Trump. At this point, the Steelers are still being mentioned heavily as the likely landing spot for future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, he has yet to sign a deal to play for the team. Currently, both Mason Rudolph and Will Howard are on the roster. Pittsburgh has seemed comfortable with those two guys as their lead options for the time being. Photo byTrump spoke out on the matter during an appearance in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, on Friday. He believes that it will be Rudolph who will be the Week 1 starter for the Steelers. Read more: Steelers Hit With Troubling Aaron Rodgers Update "I happen to think a really good quarterback is a man named Mason Rudolph," Trump said. "And I think he's going to get a big shot. He's tall, he's handsome, got a great arm. And I have a feeling he's going to be the guy. So Mason Rudolph, come up here." Right now, it does seem like Rudolph would be the likely starter if another roster move isn't made. Rodgers could still sign and be the team's starter, or another option like Kirk Cousins could be targeted, but those options are not sure things. Rudolph has started for Pittsburgh in the past. He played the first five years of his NFL career with the Steelers before joining the Tennessee Titans last season. During the 2024 season with the Titans, he received a good amount of playing time. He appeared in eight total games, completing 64 percent of his pass attempts for 1,530 yards, nine touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Rudolph also ran for 106 yards and a score. Rodgers is still expected to sign, which would make him the clear-cut starter. If that does not happen, Rudolph might very well be the starter once again for the Steelers. With Trump now weighing in with a big-time opinion of Rudolph, the 29-year-old quarterback will look to make his prediction become a reality. All fans can do at this point is wait and see what happens with Rodgers. For more Pittsburgh Steelers and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

The flimsy excuse and high cost of a military and birthday parade for the President
President-elect Donald Trump prepares to speak at the conservative gathering AmericaFest in Phoenix on Dec. 29, 2024. (Photo by Gage Skidmore | CC BY-SA 2.0) It's too bad President Trump's Vietnam-era bone spurs prevented him from first-hand participation in a military parade. Generations of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen will attest that it ain't all that much fun. I know that from my 30-plus years in Army service as a private in the ranks, an NCO, and an officer – doesn't matter whether you're in the back or at the front of the formation. They'd rather have the day off. Especially if it's your birthday. And particularly if the true purpose is an homage to the 'base commander.' Trump has wanted a pass-in-review of his very own since he witnessed a July 14 Bastille Day parade in 2017 as guest of French President Emmanuel Macron. 'We're going to have to try and top it,' he promised. Now comes together the 'perfect storm' of birthday observances: On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized formation of the nation's Army. (As a point of information, the National Guard was formed on Dec. 13, 1636, making it 389 years old.) On June 14, Fred and Mary Anne Trump became parents of their fourth child, Donald, in Queens, New York. Fred was the son of German immigrants and Mary Anne herself immigrated from Scotland. (Interestingly, Donald's grandfather, Friedrich, emigrated from Germany to escape the military draft.) Initial planning for observance of the Army's 250th birthday did not include a parade. The Army birthday festival, in the planning stages for about two years, was to include an array of activities and displays on the National Mall, including Army Stryker armored vehicles, Humvees, helicopters and other equipment. As recently as April, the White House in a statement said that 'no military parade has been scheduled.' Shortly thereafter, though, creative minds in the White House saw opportunity and determined the Army's Semiquincentennial, as 250th anniversaries are called, was the perfect cover to link the President's 80th birthday and 'to get this parade that President Trump has been wanting' said a staffer who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Trump's hopes for a military parade down Pennsylvania Avenue in 2019 during his first term, à la the Bastille Day extravaganza, were deflated by costs estimated near $92 million. We now find ourselves in a time when the chief executive is ordering sums slashed – the likes of which we've never seen before – from the federal budget and thousands of jobs eliminated without congressional involvement, all in the name of economy. Cost estimates of Trump's grandiose 2025 birthday parade are yet to be made public but if the 2019 event was $92 million …. Let's see, a six-year inflation factor …. But then again, we need remember who this guy thinks he is: '… I run the country and the world,' he recently told The Atlantic magazine. And now he showed us that he thinks he's pretty good Pope material. Columnist Peter D. Fox lives in Big Timber, and reports he was in more military parades than he cares to remember while on active duty and in Army National Guard service. Other veterans may agree that a big part of forming up was the 'hurry up and wait' until dignitaries in the reviewing stand arrived and got settled. Fox was a journalist at The Billings Gazette, taught journalism and was the executive director of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association.

Scott Bessent says US doesn't want to decouple from China ahead of scheduled meeting with Chinese counterpart
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will meet with their Chinese counterparts over the weekend in Switzerland to discuss economic matters, a significant first step in trade talks between the two global superpowers since President Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on "Liberation Day." Bessent told "The Ingraham Angle" in an interview Tuesday that he was planning on traveling to Switzerland to negotiate with the Swiss and found out that the Chinese team would also be traveling through Europe. He did not explicitly mention which side called the other first, saying there were "a lot of contact points over time." China's Economic Woes Threaten Real War Amid Tariff Battle "The world has been coming to the U.S. and China has been the missing piece," Bessent told Fox News host Laura Ingraham. The White House has been attempting to negotiate trade deals with numerous countries after Trump announced a 90-day pause in April on most so-called reciprocal tariffs, excluding China, which faces a 145% tariff. Read On The Fox News App "We have shared interests. This isn't sustainable, as I said before, especially on the Chinese side — and, you know, 145%, 125% is the equivalent of an embargo. We don't want to decouple — what we want is fair trade," Bessent said. No trade deals have officially been announced since the pause was implemented. The Treasury secretary said at a White House press briefing last week that the United States has had substantial talks with Japan and a deal with India could be imminent. Sen Rand Paul: Terminate The Trump Tariffs Before It's Too Late Trump's tariffs have created volatility in financial markets since his "Liberation Day" announcement on April 2. The president asked voters to remain patient as his economic plan takes shape, following the economy's 0.3% contraction in the first quarter of 2025. Bessent told Ingraham that he expects the upcoming scheduled meeting with Chinese officials will be more about de-escalation than a big trade deal. "We've got to de-escalate before we can move forward," he added. Trump said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" with Kristen Welker that at some point he would have to lower the tariffs on China "because otherwise, you could never do business with them." "They want to do business very much… their economy is collapsing," he said. President-elect Donald Trump speaks at AmericaFest, Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, in Phoenix. On Tuesday, Trump announced two ambassadorship nominations. Bessent did not discuss potential changes in tariff percentages, saying he wouldn't negotiate in public, but stated that "everything is on the table." "At the end of the day, the president has said that he's happy just to give all countries a number if the negotiations don't go well, and that's what we're doing with the other 17 important trading partners," he explained. "You can negotiate in good faith, you can come with your A game, or President Trump is happy to ratchet the number back up to your April 2 number , if you don't want to decrease your tariffs, your non-tariff trade barriers, the currency manipulation and subsidies of labor and industry." Anti-trans athlete activist Riley Gaines returning to SF State Tuesday
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Anti-trans athlete activist Riley Gaines will be returning to San Francisco State University Tuesday. Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer, has appeared at SFSU twice before. Memorably, a 2023 event resulted in a large protest that led to Gaines sheltering inside a classroom for several hours while police dispersed protesters. Gaines returned to SFSU last month for an event hosted by SFSU's Turning Point USA chapter. Political activist and former competitive swimmer Riley Gaines (C) watches as U.S. President Donald Trump delivers remarks before signing the 'No Men in Women's Sports' executive order in the East Room at the White House on February 5, 2025 in Washington, DC. (Photo by) That event went off mostly without controversy, apart from a demonstration outside and a single protester being removed, according to SFSU's Golden Gate Xpress bilingual student publication. On Tuesday, Gaines will be back at SFSU accompanying right-wing political provocateur Charlie Kirk on his 'The American Comeback Tour.' Kirk is the founder of Turning Point USA and has been an outspoken supporter of the Trump administration. According to Golden Gate Xpress, Gaines was a late addition to Tuesday's event, which was originally going to feature Kirk on his own. Gaines was added to the bill per her own request, according to SFSU Turning Point USA chapter president, Takuma Sugawara. (Photo by) 'I'm not sure what her motives are behind it,' Sugawara told the student paper. 'But it's great to have her and Kirk on campus, so people can have those conversations and ask both of them questions.' On Monday, five people were arrested on the Portland State University campus at an event Gaines was appearing at. Gaines' appearance was not affiliated with the university, police told KRON4's sister station KOIN. Kirk, an avowed Christian-nationalist who has stated, 'There is no separation of church and state,' was recently a guest on California Gov. Gavin Newsom's podcast. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Top GOP governor makes key endorsement in border state gubernatorial race: 'Deeply honored'
EXCLUSIVE: Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is endorsing Karrin Taylor Robson in the Arizona 2026 gubernatorial Republican primary. Robson is seeking to unseat Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs in what's expected to be one of the most competitive races in the country. "I am proud to join President Trump in endorsing Karrin Taylor Robson for Governor. Karrin is the conservative outsider and business leader Arizona needs. I know she will join me in partnering with the Trump Administration to secure our borders, create a strong economy, and say NO to the Woke Agenda. Join me in supporting Karrin today!" Sanders said in an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital. Republican Governors Can't Wait For Trump To Unleash Prosperity In The States Sanders was a press secretary for President Donald Trump during his first term, and then followed in her father Mike Huckabee's footsteps and became governor in 2023, succeeding Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson. "I am deeply honored to have Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders' support. Her leadership in Arkansas and her dedication to President Trump's America First agenda is an example for every Governor in the country to follow. I'm thrilled she's joining President Trump in supporting my campaign to deliver results for Arizona by defeating radical Katie Hobbs, locking down our border, and building a stronger, safer state," Robson said in response to the endorsement. Read On The Fox News App Sarah Huckabee Sanders On Tariff Threat: Trump Is Tired Of America Getting Ripped Off At Turning Point USA's AmericaFest in December, Trump said he planned on backing her campaign if she jumped in. "Are you running for governor? I think so, Karrin, 'cause if you do you're gonna have my support, OK?" Trump said during his speech. In 2022, she mounted a primary bid for the governor's office and narrowly lost to Republican Kari Lake, who serves as a senior advisor to the U.S. Agency for Global Media. Lake and Robson had a bitter primary battle in 2022, but Robson ultimately endorsed both Trump and Lake in their 2024 general election bids. 'I Will Not Rest': Border State Gubernatorial Hopeful Launches Campaign Weeks After Trump Backed Her Rep. Andy Biggs, who also supports Trump, threw his hat into the ring, and he's racked up the endorsements of fellow Republican Arizona Reps. Eli Crane and Paul Gosar, as well as Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert. Critics of Robson believe that Biggs will have a better shot of winning over the Republican base and hope that the president will have a change of heart. Meanwhile, there's a long way until the primary, which is scheduled for Aug. 4, 2026. It's unclear if any other major contenders will enter the race on either side. Cook Political Report ranks the general election race as a toss-up. Other statewide offices, including secretary of state and attorney general, will be up for grabs as well in the battleground state that Trump won in article source: Top GOP governor makes key endorsement in border state gubernatorial race: 'Deeply honored'
