Voice 1: The world's first museum dedicated to barbecue opened this month to the public in Kansas City, in the US state of Missouri. The Museum of BBQ was recently named one of Time Out magazine's best things to do in the world. The immersive experience walks guests through the elements of barbecue, highlighting the top barbecue regions in the United States.
Voice 2: Tickets are priced at US$10, which is about HK$78, with 30-minute availability times. Museum hours are from 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sunday. According to founder Jonathan Bender, the museum is a feast for the senses. He added that Kansas City had a rich history of barbecue and that it was the perfect place to bring the world's first barbecue museum to life.
Voice 1: Guests enter the Museum of BBQ through an oversized gate resembling a Southern Pride smoker door to begin their journey into barbecue. Southern Pride is an American company that produces a line of gas-fired or electric smokers. Five installations – Meat, Rub, Smoke, Sauce, as well as Wood and Fire – show visitors how meat becomes barbecue through interactive activities and exhibits.
Voice 2: Visitors can identify various butcher cuts by assembling a pig puzzle in the Meat Room. They can also pose for photographs wearing a butcher's apron and holding plush meat or get tips and tricks at a listening station.
Voice 1: A sensory experience awaits in the Rub Room, where guests can participate in a spice guessing game before exploring different types of smokers and wood in the Wood and Fire Room. In the Smoke Room, participants can play a smoke ring toss game before immersing themselves in the 'Lost in the Sauce' experience.
Voice 2: Five final installations – Carolinas, Memphis, Bean Pit, Texas and Kansas City – invite visitors to travel across America to experience the world of barbecue variations. Each regional room offers information about the history, culture and barbecue style that defines a given destination.
Voice 1: The Museum of BBQ takes its place in the Kansas City metro alongside more than 100 local BBQ restaurants and countless competitions, including the world's biggest BBQ contest, the American Royal World Series of Barbecue, attracting thousands of attendees and more than 500 barbecue teams from across the globe.
