ASA selects Kuwaiti doctor as first Arab surgeon to join ESA
GENEVA, May 3: The American Surgical Association (ASA) has announced the selection of Dr. Waddah Al-Refaie to participate in the 2025 scientific exchange program with the European Surgical Association (ESA). This recognition was highlighted during the 31st Annual ESA Meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 2 to 3, 2025. Dr. Al-Refaie, Head of the Surgery Department at Creighton University and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), is the first Kuwaiti, Gulf, and Arab surgeon to receive this prestigious honor. He expressed his deep pride and honor in a statement to KUNA, emphasizing that this achievement is a testament to the continuous and generous support the medical sector has received from Kuwait's political leadership. He further noted that his selection underscores the culmination of efforts by national professionals in international forums and reflects the esteemed position Kuwait holds in the global medical community. KUWAIT CITY, May 2: The American Surgical Association has selected Dr. Waddah Al-Rifai, a prominent Kuwaiti physician and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Creighton University, to participate in the 2025 Scientific Exchange Program with the European Surgical Association. Dr. Al-Rifai is the first surgeon from Kuwait, the Gulf region, and the Arab world to receive this distinction. In remarks to the Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Al-Rifai expressed deep pride in being honored during the 31st annual meeting of the European Society of Surgery, currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. The conference opened on Friday and will conclude on Saturday.
