'Packed our mats before leaving': How UAE Muslims prepared for first Taraweeh prayer of Ramadan
As news spread that the moon had been sighted in the UAE, marking the beginning of Ramadan, worshippers across the country chose to remain in mosques after Maghrib prayers, eagerly awaiting the first Taraweeh prayer of the holy month.
The announcement sparked excitement, with many deciding not to return home, instead immersing themselves in prayer and reflection as they prepared for the special night ahead.
Amir Shuhaib, a resident of Ras Al Khaimah, was among those who stayed back, preferring to remain in the mosque rather than return home. 'As soon as I heard the moon was sighted, I knew Taraweeh prayers would take place tonight. Instead of heading back, I decided to stay back at mosque,' said Shuhaib.
'I am spending my time in worship and preparing my heart and mind for the holy month. I wish all my brothers in Islam, Ramadan Kareem,' he said.
Residents along with their families and children are gathering at mosques in anticipation. Some of them are quietly reciting the Quran while others are engaged in dhikr.
Mohammed Ali, a Dubai resident, said he and his friends had already expected the announcement and had come prepared.
'We packed our prayer mats and water bottles before leaving for Maghrib, just in case. Once the moon sighting was confirmed, we stayed back, using this time to pray and reflect. The first night of Ramadan always carries a special feeling,' said Ali.
