M-E hosting Social Media Safety Workshop
ENDWELL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Parents and families will receive a crash course on the risks of social media during a free event on Thursday.
D5 Consulting Group is partnering with the Maine-Endwell Central School District for a free educational workshop focused on social media safety and community awareness.
The event will be held on April 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Southern Tier Community Center. It will also be livestreamed onto Facebook.
'This isn't just about parenting. It's about public safety,' said Amira Davis, Co-Owner of D5 Consulting. 'We're seeing these platforms used for trafficking, hidden communications, and other serious activity—right here in our communities. We want to help people understand the real risks and what they can do.'
The workshop will cover the following topics:
Local threats linked to apps like Discord and Signal
How encrypted apps are being misused
What educators, families, and everyday users need to know
Local Government responses and online exploitation trends
Live and advance-submitted Q&A
All are welcome to attend. Participants can also submit questions in advance for discussion during the workshop.
