Dave Portnoy brutally community noted on X as savage rumor goes viral

Dave Portnoy was brutally community noted on X over the weekend after he responded to a now-viral rumor about his height. The Barstool Sports founder is listed as 5-foot-10 according to Google, but one X user investigated that claim earlier this month. Sharing two photos of Portnoy apparently standing on his tippy-toes for pictures, the user said there was 'no shot' that he was actually 5-foot-10. In one photo in which Portnoy did not stand on his tippy-toes, he was nearly equal in height to a jockey. The post went viral on X, resulting in tons of follow-up posts repeating the tippy-toes claim - before Portnoy claimed it was all an 'egregious lie.' 'Of all the lies told about me this is the most egregious,' he wrote on X, in response to a video breaking down the rumor. 'People are literally photoshopping me standing on my tippy toes now.' However, Portnoy's response to his 3.7million followers led to a brutal community note underneath. This you? 👇🏻 — Amiri King (@AmiriKing) June 9, 2025 'Dave Portnoy does stand on his tippy toes as shown in this video of him being photographed,' it read. Crucially, the community note linked to a video of Portnoy appearing to stand on his toes for a picture. The video, which looks to have been filmed in Barstool's kitchen studio, actually zooms into Portnoy's feet to show him apparently adding a few inches to his height. Of the several photos which appear to show Portnoy on his tippy-toes, one is with former Spurs stars Harry Kane, Matt Doherty and Eric Dier. The Barstool boss once met the trio in London for one of his famous pizza reviews, with the group posing for a photo afterwards. Portnoy also appeared to add some extra height in an old photo with former Barstool CEO Erika Nardini and 'Bussin' with the Boys' podcasters Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. He has previously defended his height before, calling himself 'medium height' in a 2023 post. 'Bad news for the haters,' he wrote. The rumor comes as Portnoy has found himself under fire for berating his employee Kirk Minihane. On the latest episode of his company's The Unnamed Show, Portnoy lost his cool with regular co-host Minihane for leaping to the defense of another podcaster that Portnoy has recently accused of being anti-Semitic. Their dispute over freedom of speech eventually turned personal, with Portnoy - who is Jewish himself - at one stage shouting to Minihane: 'Shut the f*** up you bald f***.' 'You work for me you little b****. You work for me,' he also added.
