Amit Sadh recalls ‘tough' phase of not getting work after breakthrough film Kai Po Che: ‘There was a spike of attention and then nothing'
Kai Po Che (2013) served as the breakout debut for Amit Sadh, Rajkummar Rao and late Sushant Singh Rajput. While the film was a commercial and critical success, it did not translate into great film offers for Sadh. In a recent exclusive interview with SCREEN, the actor opened up about getting less film offers than expected. During the conversation, Amit Sadh reflected on the kind of opportunities he got after the release of Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che in 2013. He shared, 'I got a lot of attention. If I make you a graph, I see a huge spike. There was a spike of attention all of a sudden, then nothing. It was tough.' Headded, 'There was nothing for a few months. Then my whole thing is, if I don't get work, I pick up my bag and go to the forest. Kaam nahi hai, koi baat nahi, Kai Po Che toh agayi hai. I got some good roles after a few months – Guddu Rangeela, but it didn't work.' And, I don't like complaining, but the fact of the matter is – I don't get so many choices, contrary to what people think.' 'I get a few choices and in that I've to pick the best, because I just can't stay home, because I have to take care of my life, family, and my dogs. So, I just pick the best. Luck has been fortunate that every now and then I do get a good film to be a part of,' he concluded. On the professional front, Amit Sadh was last seen in Pune Highway, alongside Jim Sarbh and Manjari Fadnnis. The film hit theatres on May 29 and will soon release on an OTT platform. The actor will next feature as an encounter specialist in the crime thriller Pratap, directed by Pradeep Rangwani.

World Environment Day 2025: This planet is our home, not just a backdrop for Instagram, says Amit Sadh
Amit Sadh For Amit Sadh , World Environment Day isn't just another date on the calendar — it's deeply personal. 'The day falls on June 5, which also happens to be my birthday. It's also a reminder that this planet's on rent, and we're all tenants,' says the actor and travel enthusiast. It's this perspective that shapes how he approaches the day. He says, 'If I'm not working, I usually spend it unplugged — no fancy posts, just getting my hands dirty planting trees or cleaning a trail. We all need to focus on small acts that make a big impact.' 'Wherever I go, I see single-use plastic littering up the place' He has long been a vocal advocate against single-use plastics — a stance that didn't develop overnight. 'Wherever I go, I see single-use plastic littering up the place. Solo cups, chips packets, chocolate wrappers — it's everywhere,' he says, adding, 'It all started when I saw this mess on a trail or by a roadside dhaba and thought, enough is enough.' 'I'm that guy with the steel bottle, cloth bags and no excuses' Amit's mantra is simple, and he walks the talk. He shares, 'Aapki chocolate, aapka wrapper, aapki zimmedari! I'm that guy with the steel bottle, cloth bags and no excuses. I believe small steps add up. The planet's not going to clean itself — we've all got to do our bit.' Despite being vocal, he doesn't see himself as someone lecturing others. He clarifies, 'Look, I'm no preacher. I just share my journey — photos, videos and small wins. When we camp, we clean up after ourselves and even pick up the garbage left behind by others.' 'Be a guest, not a pest' As an avid mountaineer and biker, Amit has seen some of nature's most pristine corners and how they're being affected by irresponsible tourism. 'Travel is a privilege,' he emphasises, adding, 'I always say — leave no trace, take your trash back, respect the locals, and don't treat nature as just a backdrop for selfies. Be a guest, not a pest.' Reflecting on his travels, he says, 'Every time I ride or climb, I see two things — majestic landscapes and the mess we leave behind. That contrast hits hard. It's why I talk about it, and why I pick up trash when I see it. It's not a heroic act — it's just necessary.' 'I treat every trail, mountain, or beach like a home that deserves respect' These experiences have strengthened his message. He asserts, 'Nature's not a backdrop for Instagram; it's our lifeline. I try to treat every trail, mountain, or beach like a home that deserves respect. I share these stories through my socials and YouTube channel, hoping it sparks a change, maybe one person picks up that wrapper or refuses that plastic bottle and teaches the next. That's all I'm hoping for.' When asked about one mindset he'd like to see change globally, Amit, who has been part of films like Kai Po Che!, Sultan, and Gold, says, 'To stop seeing nature as just 'a place to visit' and start treating it like our only home. Because that's exactly what it is. When you see it as your home, you care for it. You protect it. And hopefully, we give it a future we can be proud to pass on to the next generation.' While he has witnessed troubling changes in nature during his expeditions, he remains hopeful. 'Forest services are collaborating with locals and spreading awareness. Mahila Mandals are working closely with the government on conservation efforts. There's a lot of good work happening,' he signs off. Amit Sadh calls Bollywood friendships 'shallow,' Manjari Fadnis disagrees
Actors Amit Sadh and Manjari Fadnis offered contrasting perspectives on the nature and longevity of friendships within the Bollywood industry. While Sadh expressed a more cautious view, Fadnis strongly advocated for the possibility of lasting bonds. Amit Sadh's views on Bollywood Friendships Amit Sadh, who is known for films like 'Kai Po Che!', 'Sultan', and 'Gold', shared his nuanced perspective on Bollywood friendships. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, he likened friendship to a "Grade Five" achievement, advocating for starting with "Grade One: courtesy and mutual respect." Sadh believes that simply having courtesy and mutual acknowledgment is a significant accomplishment in itself. He further stated that people sometimes "give too much importance to Bollywood friendships," only to then dismiss them as "shallow. " He emphasized that it's not necessary for co-stars from different backgrounds to bond deeply, stressing that "Friendship takes time to blossom. It's life." Manjari Fadnis's Counterpoint Manjari Fadnis, who is recognized for her roles in films such as Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Grand Masti, disagreed with the notion that lasting friendships cannot be formed in the industry. She asserted, 'I don't agree with the idea that in this industry we can't have lasting friendships. You absolutely can, beautiful friendships that have lasted for many years, and they've really blossomed.' Fadnis provided personal examples, mentioning her enduring friendship with Mansi Pareek, whom she met as a competitor on "Channel V Popstars 2," and how the entire team of her film 'Warning' has remained very close. Her examples highlight that genuine, long-term connections are indeed achievable in Bollywood. Check out our list of the latest Hindi , English , Tamil , Telugu , Malayalam , and Kannada movies . Jim Sarbh talks about his camaraderie with Amit Sadh! Says they were the parents of their group
Jim Sarbh and Amit Sadh Jim Sarbh teamed up with Amit Sadh for Rahul DaCunha and Bugs Bhargava's Pune Highway . Little did Jim know that the two would get along really well not just as co-stars but also a buddies. He tells us, 'I enjoyed working with Amit. I enjoyed working with the whole cast but Amit and I probably had the most scenes together. We are more the parents of the group. The characters do move between those two phases like really having fun with each other and also having to deal with a more serious thing that they have ever dealt with before. So, there's the bundle of energy part of it but there is also the more complicated serious bits.' In an earlier chat with us Jim spoke about the experience of working with the director duo, saying, 'They had a very clear vision, which made things easy on set. I never felt confused about who to turn to—they were in sync, and both understood the material deeply. I've seen them direct theatre for years, and to me, they're pretty conventional. In terms of process and clarity, they were spot on. There was a very loving, open environment that flowed from them to the entire crew. That kind of supportive energy is rare—and it really brought the best out of all of us.' About the show, he had said, 'At its core, Pune Highway is about friendship . It's about growing up together—imagine kids who live in the same building, become best friends, and continue to share life's journey into adulthood. There's laughter, there's deep connection—dosti aur hasi—but then, suddenly, there's khoon—a murder, distant yet deeply personal, that shakes the very foundation of this group. I play Vishnu, who's a lawyer who ends up defending some of his own friends after suspicion falls on them. So, in essence, it's a buddy murder mystery , with bonds of loyalty and truth colliding.' Amit Sadh quit Kai Po Che in a fit of rage because director Abhishek Kapoor was rude to him: ‘I had a violent temper'
While actor Amit Sadh's first movie, Kai Po Che (2013), wasn't a big-budget launch that many young actors dream of, he was praised for his talent and the movie is still remembered for having given Amit and his two co-stars, Rajkummar Rao and Sushant Singh Rajput, a grand introduction in mainstream Bollywood. In a new interview, the actor revealed that he'd actually quit the project on day one because he felt insulted by the way director Abhishek Kapoor spoke to him and his co-stars. Appearing on Cyrus Broacha's podcast Cyrus Says, Sadh said, 'I got Kai Po Che, and we went to the first reading. I think Gattoo (Abhishek Kapoor) got some bad news about a big female star leaving the film, and he was a bit… whatever. So I, Sushant and Rajkummar were reading, and I have an elder brother syndrome, and I am very protective about the people around me, and Gatoto comes up to us and says, 'What are you guys doing? There is no emotion in this.' I got really mad and told him that he couldn't talk to us like that.' ALSO READ: Mukesh Chhabra recalls Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Varma auditioning for Kai Po Che, says he spotted Sushant Singh Rajput in a cafe: 'Rest is history' Sadh said that Abhishek's behaviour annoyed him, and he took the rather rash decision of quitting the film. 'I came back home that day, and I decided that I am not going to do this film because Gattoo was rude to us. They tried casting someone else, and it didn't work out. We bumped into each other a week later, and he asked me if I had other work or even a house or a car. I said no, and he said, 'Then why did you quit the film'?' The actor admitted that he was very sensitive early in his career, and it took him some time to get over anger issues. 'I had a very bad temper, and I was very violent. The one thing I am proud of is that I met the right people, and I read the right book, and I realised that anger was futile. I found the other way, which is communication.' The actor has talked about the film in the past as well, and said that after the movie'srelease, many people compared him to his co-stars, and what they were achieving in the industry. Amit Sadh was last seen in the film Pune Highway alongside Jim Sarbh, Rajit Kapoor, Shishir Sharmaa and Manjari Fadnnis.
