Amman Chamber of Commerce follows up on the ASL BAUHINIA ship fire and appoints an international law firm
Khaberni -The Amman Chamber of Commerce confirmed on Saturday that it has paid great attention to the ASL BAUHINIA ship fire incident since its occurrence, and has been keen on monitoring its effects on Jordanian traders and safeguarding their rights. The Vice President of the Chamber, Nabil Al-Khatib, said in a statement that the Chamber began a precise and direct follow-up of the case details and was keen on tracking the ship's route and determining the port it docked at, aiming to gather accurate and comprehensive information about the incident. Al-Khatib added that the Chamber held a series of meetings with the affected traders and responded quickly to the incident's repercussions, indicating that the Chamber formed a joint committee with the victims to follow up on this file from all aspects, ensuring the correct legal course that guarantees the recovery of the affected traders' rights. He explained that the Chamber chose an international law firm to handle the legal aspects of the case, in cooperation with international law offices specialized in maritime affairs, noting that the Chamber coordinated a meeting between the affected traders and representatives of the law firm to discuss a clear roadmap for litigation procedures, power of attorney mechanisms, and the legal steps to be followed. Al-Khatib pointed out that the affected traders also formally appointed the international law firm after being briefed in detail by representatives of the firm about the nature of the lawsuit, its procedures, and the expected legal outcomes, emphasizing that the Chamber places the fair cases of traders at the core of its priorities, and is committed to following them with full responsibility and seriousness, stemming from its national and institutional role in supporting the commercial sector and protecting the interests of its members. The international law firm clarified during the meeting that the office will manage the litigation file before the specialized international judicial authorities, according to a comprehensive legal strategy that considers the nature of maritime cases and their complexities, confirming that the office has extensive experience in such cases, and a wide network of partnerships with maritime law offices around the world. They indicated that they will commence work immediately upon completing the official power of attorney procedures, affirming their commitment to providing periodic reports on the progress of the case, and ensuring the highest levels of transparency in the legal proceedings. The ship was en route from the United Arab Emirates to Aqaba last January when a fire broke out on its deck, carrying containers owned by several international shipping lines.

ACC, Ramallah commerce chamber talk Jordanian-Palestinian trade cooperation
AMMAN — Chairman of Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Khalil Hajj Tawfiq on Saturday agreed with Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ramallah and Bireh Governorates Abdul Ghani Attari to increase cooperation and coordination in multiple areas of common interest, which would reflect "positively" on the two countries' trade relations. Speaking at the meeting, Hajj Tawfiq said that the ACC is "fully" ready to support the Palestinian commercial sector and promote Palestinian products in the local market, as well as providing specialised training for the Palestinian chamber and the business sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Hajj Tawfiq highlighted the importance of working to overcome difficulties and challenges facing Jordanian-Palestinian trade exchanges, imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities. He indicated that the Kingdom's exports to the Palestinian market amounted to JD202 million last year, compared with about JD47 million in imports. Hajj Tawfiq stressed the importance of boosting cooperation in the coming period and activating the memorandum of understanding signed by the two chambers. He stressed the significance of supporting and promoting Palestinian products through joint exhibitions and promotion campaigns. Attari praised support of the ACC and the Jordanian private sector to the Palestinian private sector to back its "resilience" in facing the Israeli economic policies. Attari noted difficulties facing businesspeople travel to and from Palestine due to the Israeli occupation's restrictions. Jordan, he noted, is Palestine's "vital artery, and the gateway" for other countries globally, including Arab countries, underlining the importance of adopting the port of Aqaba as the main venue for Palestinian imports.

Leading the delegation, Vice Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Nabil Khatib stressed the importance of Jordan's ongoing participation in international trade fairs and economic events, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He noted that such engagements are "key" to boosting commercial ties, expanding market access, and creating "new" business opportunities for Jordanian exporters and importers. The Jordanian delegation includes representatives from companies active in construction, sanitary ware, electrical appliances, building materials, and agribusiness. Khatib described the event as a 'valuable platform' for connecting with business leaders and investors from Pakistan and beyond. The exhibition offers a chance to exchange knowledge, explore joint ventures, and identify potential areas for trade and investment collaboration, particularly in sectors like healthcare, engineering and metal industries. He added that the expo is a 'prime' opportunity to stay up to date with industry trends and innovations, while also paving the way for 'stronger' partnerships between Jordanian and Pakistani businesses. The exhibition showcases a "wide" array of products, from agricultural machinery and marble to electrical appliances, building supplies, handicrafts, pharmaceutical products and more. As part of their visit, the Jordanian delegates also travelled to Sialkot, where they met with members of the local chamber of commerce and industry. Discussions focused on signing a memorandum of understanding to lay the groundwork for future cooperation. ACC issues 7,208 certificates of origin in Q1 2025
The number of certificates of origin issued by the Amman Chamber of Commerce for the export of goods and commodities to Arab and foreign countries rises by 26.2 per cent during the first quarter of 2025 (Photo courtesy of the Aqaba Container Terminal) AMMAN — The number of certificates of origin issued by the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) for the export of goods and commodities to Arab and foreign countries rose by 26.2 per cent during the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year, ACC said on Sunday According to the ACC's statistical data obtained by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, a total of 7,208 certificates of origin were issued by the chamber during the January-March period 2025, compared to 5,711 certificates during the first three months in 2024. Based on the data, the value of the ACC's certificates in the first three months 2025 dropped by 7.3 per cent, decreasing by approximately JD305 million, compared to JD328 million in 2024. Syria ranked first on the list of the top five countries that received the chamber's exported goods and products during the same period with 1,665 certificates worth JD18 million, while Iraq ranked highest in terms of value. Iraq ranked second with 801 certificates at a value of some JD137 million, placing it on the list of importing from the Kingdom with the highest value, the ACC figures showed. The number of certificates of origin issued for Switzerland reached 7, valued at JD26 million, while Egypt accounted for 181 certificates valued at JD22 million and the UAE had 630 certificates valued at JD17 million. These countries are the largest in terms of both the number and value of export. As for the type of products, the value of exports of non-Arab products amounted to some JD149 million, distributed among industrial products with JD71 million, agricultural products with JD29 million, and Arab products that amounted to around JD21 million. The remaining value was distributed among other types of products. Customs authorities use these certificates to determine tariff eligibility and verify product origins. The ACC issues certificates for Jordanian agricultural, livestock, and natural resource products, as well as foreign goods for re-export and locally purchased foreign products under specific conditions. The chamber also certifies Jordanian industrial products upon exporters' request, based on an original factory invoice verified by an industrial chamber and an official certificate of origin confirming Jordanian manufacturing.
