Punjab: Bathinda DSP suspended over alleged misconduct
Deputy superintendent of police Harbans Singh Dhaliwal, posted in Bathinda as DSP-1, was suspended on Monday for alleged misconduct in handling organised crime cases. His jurisdiction included the Canal Colony and Kotwali police stations. Bathinda senior superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal confirmed the suspension, citing Dhaliwal's ineffective response to certain heinous crimes. 'While no specific complaint was filed against him, the decision was based on his handling of several commercial cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and other organised criminal activities,' the SSP added.

After cobbler, tailor arrested from Bathinda Military Station over suspicious phone content
Following the arrest of a cobbler, a tailor named Raqib from Roorkee, Uttarakhand, has been apprehended at Bathinda Military Station. Authorities discovered suspicious communication on his mobile phone, which has been seized for forensic analysis. BATHINDA: After the arrest of a cobbler from Bathinda Military Station over two weeks ago, a tailor has been arrested from the military station. Some suspicious communication is learnt to have been recovered from his mobile, which has been seized and has been sent for forensic examination. The arrested tailor has been identified as Raqib, a resident of Roorkee in Uttarakhand. He had been working in the military station as a tailor for the last about two years. Raqib (28) was handed over to Bathinda Police on Tuesday. He was produced before court which sent him to three days police remand. Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Amneet Kondal confirming the arrest said that the army authorities handed him over. Some communication has been detected from his mobile, which has been sent for forensic examination. Sources said he might be trying to send some information about the military station. The Bathinda including airbase, army facility was learnt to be on target of Pakistan during operation Sindoor as a number of drone attacks were neutralised. Earlier, a cobbler, identified as Sunil Kumar, was arrested from Bathinda Military Station on April 28. He had been working in the Military Station for last 7 years. He was accused of indulging in some chat in WhatsApp with a mystery woman, who is learnt to be wanting to extract certain logistical details of the military station. Bathinda SP (Investigation) Narinder Singh said that the army authorities approached the police and a case has been registered against Raqib at Cantt Police Station and further investigations are being made.

Civilian caught spying in Bathinda cantonment
In the backdrop of the military conflict with Pakistan following Indian strikes on terror sites in the neighbouring country on May 7 under Operation Sindoor, police arrested a civilian working at the military station in Bathinda on suspicion of spying. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amneet Kondal said on Tuesday that the suspect is being questioned. The police said that the suspect was working as a tailor inside the high-security defence installation and the military authorities handed over his custody to the district police on Monday. A mobile phone recovered from his possession and it has been sent for forensic analysis to gather evidence, said officials. He is the second civilian arrested in the past two weeks on the complaint of the authorities of the local military station. On April 29, Sunil Kumar, who was working as a cobbler in the defence base, was caught on similar suspicion. 'His bank statement and property details were analysed, but there was no clinching evidence against him. His mobile phone was also sent for forensic analysis and the report is awaited,' said a police official.

Tensions between India and Pakistan prompted blackouts across Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana CHANDIGARH: A widespread blackout was enforced across several districts of Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana's Panchkula Ambala and Sirsa districts on Thursday night as tensions flared between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor and the threat of air strikes. Authorities ordered residents to switch off lights and stay indoors, accompanied by sirens and announcements from the police. Amritsar, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, and Faridkot districts were subject to blackout orders. In Pathankot, the blackout began at 8.30 pm, coinciding with reports of air raid warnings. Gurdaspur's blackout started at 9 pm and was extended until further notice. The district administration attributed the blasts to possible sonic booms, but residents were left shaken The local administration offered only a brief statement that 'Amritsar is safe', while assuring residents that precautionary measures were in place. Deputy commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said, 'We are observing precaution, there is no need to panic. ' The city experienced two blackouts. Police commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar clarified that the blackouts were a temporary measure prompted by the loud noises. By Thursday morning, reports surfaced of missile debris scattered across four villages of Makhanwindi, Jethuwal, Pandher, and Dudhala. Villagers were quick to document the fragments, with many taking selfies next to the metallic remains. Local authorities, however, refrained from identifying the specific sites of the debris collection. A senior police officer confirmed that Army teams were dispatched to the affected villages to recover the wreckage.

Women distribute sweets after Bathinda police demolish house of drug peddler
BATHINDA: While Bathinda police and administrative officials demolished a house allegedly constructed illegally on land belonging to the Bathinda Development Authority (BDA) in the Beant Nagar area, several local women applauded the action and distributed sweets in celebration. They expressed relief, stating that the widespread availability of drugs in the area caused them constant anxiety about protecting their sons from substance abuse. Led by Bathinda senior superintendent of police Amneet Kondal, the police team, with the support of civil administration, razed the house of one Ramesh Sahni, also known as Rambo, in Beant Nagar, who has 11 FIRs registered against him. These include four cases under the NDPS Act, one under the Excise Act, and one under murder charges. Apart from this, the house of one Kewal Singh was also razed in the Dhobiana Basti area. Kewal Singh faces five FIRs under the NDPS Act. 'Being a woman, I could feel the pain of the women in the area where they complain about the availability of drugs. Upon receiving the complaints, we acted swiftly and apprehended those involved in drug peddling. When action was taken on Friday, a number of women reached the spot, clapped, and distributed sweets while appreciating the action,' said SSP Amneet Kondal. She added that the women have assured their support for the police action and will inform them if anyone is found selling drugs in the future, as their faith in the police has been revived.
