Main suspect in dacoity at industrialist's bungalow dies in police encounter, family alleges deliberate killing
1 2 3 4 Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The investigation into the May 15 theft of 5.5kg gold and 32kg silver, worth Rs 3.5 crore, from industrialist Santosh Ladda's Waluj bungalow in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar took a turn when the primary suspect, Amol Khotkar, was killed in a police encounter at Wadgaon Kolhati at 11pm on Monday. Following the encounter, Khotkar's relatives accused the police of intentionally killing Amol for personal benefit. The family refused to claim his body from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after autopsy until Tuesday evening, insisting on an unbiased investigation into the encounter. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar police commissioner Pravin Pawar denied the accusations of deliberate killing. Police had earlier arrested five suspects, but did not make any significant recovery from them. While these suspects were being questioned, police received information that the stolen gold and silver items were with Khotkar. Pravin Pawar said, "Our team received a tip-off that Khotkar was coming to Sajjapur Road in the Wadgaon Kolhati area. He drove to the spot in a car along with his girlfriend. When confronted, Khotkar opened fire at the police team and tried to run his car over a constable, who sustained a serious leg injury. Our team then retaliated by firing at Khotkar. In this action, Khotkar's car veered off the road and fell into a ditch. " Khotkar, who was wounded, was transported to GMCH where he succumbed to his injuries. Officials confirmed Khotkar had 10 criminal cases registered against him between 2010 and 2022, including dacoity and attempted murder. The five additional suspects in the Waluj dacoity case were presented before the local court on Monday. They received 14-day police custody. Among them, Suresh, alias Suryakant Gangane, from Beed district, has 11 previous offences. Other accused include Yogesh Hajabe with seven registered offences, alongside Sayyed Azaroddin Sayyed Kabiroddin, Sohail Shaikh, and Mahendra Bidwe. At GMCH, Rohini Khotkar, Amol's elder sister, claimed police "eliminated" her brother through "contract killing". She defended him as a successful businessman. "He was a well-settled businessman. He owned four-wheelers and used to wear a lot of gold. Why would he commit house break-in or dacoity?" she asked. Baburao, Khotkar's father, questioned why officers didn't target his son's legs instead. He stressed on the existence of legal procedures for dealing with criminals and demanded justice. Local crime branch head Sandeep Gurme explained that targeting Khotkar's legs was impossible as he was inside his vehicle. He confirmed that Khotkar and two others had criminal records, including previous break-ins. The stolen valuables worth Rs 3.5 crore remain unrecovered.

In an earlier interaction, Amol had revealed that he initially refused to cast Nana in his 1990 film despite the actor's insistence, as he had heard of a scuffle between Nana and director Vidhu Vinod Chopra during the making of their 1989 film Parinda. When asked if he turned Nana down because of his short temper, Amol told The Lallantop, 'I didn't reject him because of his short temper. I told Nana, 'You don't have softness in your whole personality and you won't be able to do it.'' However, Nana didn't take Amol's criticism to heart and continued to pursue the role. Vidhu Vinod Chopra had earlier opened up about his clash with Nana on the sets of Parinda on the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He recalled how a disagreement escalated into a physical altercation. He shared, 'There's a scene in the film where Nana asks if he has tears in his eyes after his wife has died… We'd been shooting all day, and it was late in the evening. Nana declared that he was too tired to continue and that he was going home. I told him, 'Sure, you pay for the overheads then'. He started swearing at me, I swore back, and in the scuffle, I tore his kurta. The cops on set said, 'We're here to protect you, and you're fighting among yourselves.''
