NEW DELHI: The country's leading dairy brand - Amul - has increased the prices of its milk by ₹2 per litre, effective from Wednesday. The fresh hike by Amul comes soon after competitor Mother Dairy announced hiking milk prices by up to ₹2 per litre. The hike by Amul will apply to several variants including Amul Standard Milk, Amul Gold, Amul Taaza, Amul Slim n Trim, Amul Cow Milk, Amul Buffalo Milk, and Amul Chai Mazza. The price adjustment comes as part of a routine market review and will be reflected across all retail outlets starting May 1, 2025, the company said. The price of Amul Gold has risen from ₹65 to ₹67 per litre, while Slim & Trim milk now costs ₹25 per 500 ml, up from ₹ 24. Mother Dairy attributed the price hike to ongoing extensive heatwave in the Delhi NCR region. It said that increase applies to all variants of milk, including full cream, toned, double-toned and cow milk. "This price revision has been necessitated to address the significant increase in procurement costs, which have gone up by ₹4-5 per litre over the past few months," Mother Dairy's spokesperson said. Due to the price hike, a pouch of Mother Dairy full cream milk now costs ₹69 per litre as compared to its earlier price of ₹68 per litre. The price hike is unlikely to impact demand for milk or dairy products as Amul Managing Director, Jayen Mehta informed that the company's turnover for FY25 stood at ₹ 66,000 crore and is expected to hit ₹1 lakh crore mark in FY25.

Amul milk prices up by Rs 2 per litre; GCMMF says ‘lower than average food inflation'

Amul Milk is all set to get dearer by Rs 2 per litre across the country, effective from Thursday. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has announced an increase of Rs 2 per litre on all variants of fresh milk pouches. As per the new effective rates for Gujarat, 500ml of Amul Gold will now cost Rs 34, while 1 litre pack will cost Rs 67, Amul Shakti will cost Rs 31 for a 500 ml pouch, Amul Taaza will cost Rs 28 for a 500ml pouch and Rs 55 for 1 litre pouch, while 500 ml pouch of buffalo milk will now cost Rs 37 and 1 litre will cost Rs 73. Amul T Special will cost Rs 63 for the standard one litre pouch, while cow milk will cost Rs 29 for a 500 ml pouch. In a release late on Wednesday evening, the GCMMF said, 'The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates to range of 3-4% increase in MRP, which is much lower than the average food inflation, It is worthwhile to note that Amul offered benefits to the consumers by giving 50ml and 100ml extra milk on 1 litre and 2 litres packs for almost five months in the last year and thereafter also reduced the prices of 1 litre packs by Re 1 across all markets since January 2025. The GCMMF has made no increase in prices of fresh pouch milk since June 2024.' Attributing the price hike to 'increase in input costs of production of milk to 36 lakh milk producers', the release said, 'Our member unions have also increased farmer's price in the same proportion over the last one year. Amul as a policy passees on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by the consumers for milk and milk products to the milk producers. The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production.'
