Don't be fooled by Shannon Tan's quietness, this golfer loves a scrap
When it mattered, Shannon Tan of Singapore held her nerve to win the Amundi German Masters. PHOTO: TRISTAN JONES / LET Shannon Tan, the golfer, is a quiet enigma in a loud age. A modest presence in a showboating world. Her answers to questions are so short it feels she's rationing her words. Her volume is so soft it speaks of shyness. And, so of course, she meets victory in Germany with a barely lifted hand in acknowledgement. But, please, don't be fooled. Nothing about her manner may seek attention, but her sturdy golf certainly does. This is a 21-year-old young woman with a polite love for a scrap. Golf: Vani finishes sixth, Diksha eighth in German Masters
Indian pair Vani Kapoor and Diksha Dagar had a fine finish in the Top-10 at the Amundi German Masters on the Ladies European Tour. Vani, playing her third event of the season, was Tied-sixth and Diksha was T-8 as Singapore's Shannon Tan won the title. Another Indian Avani Prashanth was T-26. Vani rallied from a disappointing third round to shoot 2-under 71 in windy conditions in the fourth round on the North Course at Green Eagle Golf Courses in the final round of the 2025 Amundi German Masters. That helped her close at Tied-sixth and get her first Top-10 finish since October 2022, when she finished T-8 at her home event, the Women's Indian Open. Vani, who has won four times in her home Tour WPGT this year, shot rounds of 72-70-76-71 to total 3-under for the week. Singapore's Shannon Tan sank a par putt on the last to secure a one-shot victory and her second Ladies European Tour (LET) title after a tense final day at the 2025 Amundi German Masters. Vani was the best Indian this week as Diksha Dagar, who was in contention over the first two days with 69-73, shot 74-74 over the final two rounds and ended Tied-eighth. It was Diksha's fifth Top-10 and she has also been in Top-15 on two other occasions. She is now back in Top-10 of the Order of Merit. Avani Prashanth, the third Indian to make the cut this week, had a very straightforward even par round with one birdie and one bogey and she finished T-26 at 2-over total. Her rounds this week were 73-74-74-73. Shannon Tan, who led overnight with a score of 12-under-par, opened with eight pars before making back-to-back bogeys on the ninth and 10th holes. A birdie on 11 put the Olympian back to a three-shot advantage over Germany's Helen Briem, who was playing in the group in front. However, bogeys on 13 and 17 saw the lead reduce to just one shot with one hole to play as Briem held the clubhouse lead on eight-under-par. After making it onto the 18th green, the 21-year-old knocked her birdie putt a few feet past but then rolled in the par putt to clinch her second LET title with a score of nine-under-par. Germany's Briem produced a round of 73 (E) to finish in outright second place on eight-under-par in Hamburg. New Zealand's Amelia Garvey carded a round of 72 (-1) to end the week in third place on seven-under-par in Germany. It is the rookie's third top-10 in four weeks and equalled her best finish of third place at the Hulencourt Women's Open. South Africa's Lee-Anne Pace and Ireland's Anna Foster shared fourth place on four-under-par with India's Vani Kapoor and Czechia's Tereza Melecka in T-6. One shot further back in a tie for eighth place were India's Diksha Dagar and Germany's Carolin Kauffmann, with four players rounding out the top 10.

Singapore's Shannon Tan clinches second Ladies European Tour title with German Masters win
SINGAPORE: Singapore golfer Shannon Tan secured her second Ladies European Title with a one-shot victory at the 2025 Amundi German Masters on Sunday (Jun 29). The 21-year-old closed with a three-over par 76, finishing with a nine-under par 283 total at Green Eagle Golf Courses in Winsen (Luhe). Germany's Helen Briem finished one stroke behind, while New Zealand's Amelia Garvey trailed two shots back in third place. After starting with rounds of 70 and 69, Tan delivered a 68 on the third day, seizing the outright lead. The finale turned tense as a bogeys on the 13th and 17th reduced Tan's lead to just one stroke. She needed a par on the par-five 18th to achieve a victory. Her birdie putt rolled a few feet past but she completed her round, and tournament, with a par putt to clinch the win. The Porsche North Course, also known as the "Green Monster", is considered the most demanding course in Germany for its length and water hazards. It measures over 7,000m and is amongst the world's 10 longest courses. The world's 117th-ranked player acknowledged the challenging conditions on the final day. Tan noted that the wind had picked up, making club selection more difficult. "It was quite windy out there," she said. "If you go long, you just have to accept it." Tan's triumph marks her first victory of the 2025 season and her second since turning professional last year. Her first win was at the Ladies European Tour debut at the 2024 Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

Shannon Tan wins German Masters with Anna Foster best of the Irish
Shannon Tan emerged as the winner of the Amundi German Masters by a single stroke with Anna Foster finishing best of the Irish in the Ladies European Tour event. Foster's two-under 71 on Sunday ensured that she finished in a tie for fourth on four under at the Green Eagle Golf course near Hamburg. Birdies on four, seven, nine, 13 and 16 helped the Dublin native on her way amid bogeys on six, ten and 14. Kildare's Lauren Walsh was the only other Irish player involved in the final round and ended her tournament with a 74 to finish in a tie for 26th on two over. But it was Singapore native Tan who had something to celebrate despite seeing her three-shot overnight lead whittled down to the bare minimum in round four. Tan's three-over 76 saw her finish on nine under with sixth-placed Helen Briem of Germany narrowly missing out on victory on home soil after a 73 brought her to within one shot of the summit. New Zealander's Amelia Garvey was third on seven under after a 72. The next stop on the LET will be the KPMG Women's Irish Open at Carton House which will get underway on Thursday.

S'pore golfer Shannon Tan claims second Ladies European Tour title with German Masters victory
Shannon Tan carded a three-over 76 on the final day of the €300,000 (S$443,370) tournament for a nine-under 283 total. PHOTO: TRISTAN JONES/LET SINGAPORE – Singaporean golfer Shannon Tan captured her second Ladies European Tour (LET) title after winning the Amundi German Masters by a single stroke on June 29. At the Green Eagle Golf Courses' North Course in Winsen (Luhe), Germany, the 21-year-old carded a three-over 76 on the final day of the €300,000 (S$443,370) tournament for a nine-under 283 total. After opening rounds of 70 and 69, Tan fired a 68 on moving day to take the outright lead, with her closest competitor Hannah Screen from England, three shots behind. Tan held a comfortable lead, extending it to five shots after eight consecutive pars, while Screen slipped out of contention with four bogeys and a quadruple bogey. However, a difficult stretch in windy conditions made things far from straightforward. Back-to-back bogeys on holes No. 9 and 10 saw her lead cut to two, as Germany's Helen Briem closed the gap with a birdie on the 11th. Tan three-putted the par-five ninth hole and was forced to take a drop on the par-four 10th after her tee shot found the hazard. She recovered well, with her penalty drop shot finding the green, but was unable to save par after needing two putts. She responded with a birdie on the 11th to regain some breathing room, but another bogey on the 13th allowed both Briem and New Zealand's Amelia Garvey to move within two shots, setting up a tense finish. A bogey on the 17th trimmed her lead to just one stroke, but she held on to secure her second professional victory. It is another encouraging showing from the world No. 117, who has now secured top-10 finishes in her last four tournaments. She finished runner-up at the Jabra Ladies Open in late May, falling just two strokes short of Czech Republic's Sara Kouskova, before placing joint-sixth at the Tenerife Women's Open a fortnight later. Two weeks ago, she was among a group of five players who came in 10th at the Hulencourt Women's Open. This is Tan's first victory of the 2025 season and her second since she turned professional last year. Her maiden win came on her LET debut at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open. While it has taken a few events to secure her second title, she has been in strong form this year. She opened the season with a third-place finish at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco and has missed the cut just once in 11 LET events so far. She also recorded a best performance by a Singaporean at the HSBC Women's World Championship in March, when she came in tied-34th in the field of 64 at Sentosa Golf Club's Tanjong Course. Her second professional title comes on the back of an impressive rookie season, in which she was sixth on the LET's Order of Merit in 2024. She also became the first Singaporean golfer to compete at the Olympics in August, placing 40th. A few weeks later, she became just the second Singaporean to make the cut at a Major when she achieved the feat at the Women's British Open at St Andrews.
