Watertown Pride kicks off Pride Month celebration at the end of June
Watertown boasts a 'Pride' Festival, as do several locations across the Mount Rushmore State in coming weeks and months, as summer gets heated up.
Amy Rambow, president and founder of "Watertown Love" told the Public Opinion that the annual event was first held in a city park, but the group has now moved to Foundation Plaza.
The event — the sixth of its kind — will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, June 28. Rambow notes that attendance runs anywhere from 400 to 500 people. Food trucks, live music, drag shows, vendors and activities will be present at the downtown event. The festival is put on by Watertown Love.
'We are an event that accepts everyone for who they are,' Rambow said. 'Its a great time for people to also express themselves without fear of judgment. It is a great time to come and share family and love. We love to see families showing love and acceptance. We look forward to the opportunity to show the LGBTQ+ community that we are here and not going any place! It's a safe space to just exist. We have vendors, talent and a lot to do and see.'
Other similarly-themed Pride festivals across South Dakota in June include parades, live music and ways to support local LGBTQ-owned businesses.
A general list includes:
Sioux Falls Pride: June 14
Aberdeen Pride: June 20-21 (This includes an art show at Red Rooster Coffee House in the Hub City.)
Brookings Pride: June 21
Pierre Pride: June 22
Vermillion Pride: June 27-29
Rapid City/Black Hills: June 28-30
