Looking for something fun to do with that tax return? Maybe buy a fire truck

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – If you're one of the lucky folks to have already gotten back your 2025 tax refund and are looking for a unique way to spend it, one Upstate fire department may have just the item for you. According to Anderson County Fire Department, the Anderson County Fire Protection Commission has retired several well-maintained fire trucks from the 1990's and early 2000's, and the trucks are now up for sale. In posts on social media, the department announced the sales as a chance for collectors to own a piece of local history. 'These rigs have answered the call and served our community bravely—now they're looking for their next adventure,' wrote the department in a Facebook post on Friday. The trucks are being auctioned off on an online marketplace which works with government agencies to sell or dispose of surplus inventory. Items are sold on GovDeals via auction, and users interested in the fire trucks can bid on each truck individually. The trucks range from a pair of 1993 GMC-made trucks to a 2001 Freightliner-made truck. They were each purchased new by Anderson Fire Department decades ago and were retired last year after the county purchased new trucks for the department. In listings for the trucks the department states they've been well-maintained since their initial purchase, and service records for each fire truck are available on request. As of Saturday morning, bids for the ranged from around $4,550 to just over $10,000. You can view the auctions and place your own bids by clicking here. The trucks will remain available for auction until February 27. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
